Gaming Mice

My first gaming grade mouse was a Logitech MX518, I loved it.  Next came its spiritual successor, the Logitech G400, still love the shape of it in my hand, but doesn't feel quite as smooth/accurate.  I'm considering what my next mouse will be and the possibilities seem endless!!!  The Cooler Master offerings seem pretty nice, but I've never used that brand for anything other than a one computer case in the past.

What are you guys using?  Do you prefer Optical or Laser?  Left handed, Right handed, or the exotic Ambidextrous??  Any particular brands that you are loyal to or avoid like the plague?

It's pretty comfortable, has all the buttons I need, and Lumifiber for PS2.

I highly recommend taking a good look at either the Mionix Naos 8200 or the new Avior 8200.

Both use a 32 bit ARM CPU and do not require drivers. There is a companion application which builds a custom firmware for you. You can literally customize everything at the hardware level.
Buttons, lights, sensor filtering, lift distance, DPI steps. It's solid.

The physical shape is hit or miss, depending on your preference.

I was a hardcore Logitech fan but got tired of my G5. In the past I have owned a mx518 and a Razer deathadder. I would never own another Razer product based on the build quality and the shitty drivers.

Never touching a Razer product after my experience with the Mamba.

I've owned a Mionix Naos 5000 for a while and it's the most comfortable mouse I've come across. The rubberized finish is great, the side button placement is just right, and the ridges on the right are something more mice should have. The 8200 is the newest iteration of the design. I'll probably get that if my current mouse ever fails.

I've got a logi g500 now. my second logi in a row, it's good.

But there's lots of room for improvement.

The razer deathadder had a great form for me when I was completely new to non-ambidextrous mice. Too bad it's made of cheap chinese plastic and wire. My copperhead also had connectivity & driver problems. Scar's Lachesis was wonky, as another razer mouse of his. So yeah, probably not Razer.

The G5 that everyone is raving about has been long discontinued. I would recommend its successor, the G500, but that has also been discontinued. Its successor is the G500s, and it seems to be an even further improvement on the tried and true, if a little gaudy.

EDIT: I should note that I'm not exactly ginger with my peripheral devices. The G500 is a TANK. I have never had any problems with it except for the wire braiding being torn on arrival.

I don't know why you guys had issues with Razer. Plus their quality has far improved AND I never used the mama. I loved my deathadder Lachesis and still love my naga. I of course have other Razer gear but this is a mice thread

I have had three generations of the same mouse, two keyboards and 5 Logitech headsets fail on me. I will never waste my funds with them again.

I think what appeals to me about the Cooler Masters I've seen is that they have more than just the 2 thumb buttons, but not an obscene amount like the "MMO" mice with 9+ thumb buttons.  And they are a bit cheaper than the Logitechs, however the age old "you get what you pay for!" makes me think...

I want just a couple extra buttons on my mouse that I can bind all voice channels to to free up room on my keyboard, and maybe eventually get a ten key-less mechanical keyboard.

I had never heard of Mionix until just this past year.  I ended up getting a Mionix Propus 380 mouse pad and I love it.  I really wanted to have a pad with a flat metal plate in it because I HATE it when a pad is not completely flat.

I stumbled across this abomination of a TT mouse in my search. It looks like a training mouse for a peasant that has to get used to a computer.  Those xbox colored buttons, wtf??? And a LED on the left click, "Dis iz 4 pew pew!"

the wire braiding on my g500 also tore pretty quickly but otherwise it's a good mouse

i kind of want something like an mmo mouse just because i'm at a disadvantage in sc2 having my fingers default to WASD

My G5 is the only mouse I've had that's lasted me this long. On a few others, the damned mouse wheel would always implode.

On a related note, I took apart my Mionix NAOS 5000 and increased tension on the button springs for my left click and middle mouse buttons. The clicks feel a little different now, but my double click when single clicking issue seems to be fixed for now.

I own a razer deathadder and a roccat kone[+].  I'm currently using the kone[+] because of pretty lights lol.

I like my Logitech G500, but the mouse wheel is kinda shitty.  Normally I'm only annoyed by the too-low friction, meaning it keeps on rolling for a while unless I manually stop a scroll. Now there's a new problem: a few days ago when I was playing Stalker, I found that the wheel is also way oversensitive. The game constantly picks up minute movements and thinks that I want to switch weapons when I don't.  I suppose part of the fault lies with the Stalker devs, but still, it never happened with my old G5.  Not enough to make me buy a new mouse but still irritating.
