Seriously, the wife, and a friend, and myself, went to the Wizard World Ohio Comic Con

http://www.wizardworld.com/home-ohio.html

I actually had a decent amount of fun, the friend is a huge Doctor Who fan, so, he went as the 11th.

Personally I did not cosplay, but I did see some very impressive cosplays there. Best Male Villain winner was an amazing Carnage, while the best male Hero was a quite good Hulk Buster.

Here's the two facebook albums they posted

Well, now that I believe I may be able to get a small group... it seems a possibility for 2016... maybe (seeing as 2015 doesn't look like it right now, way too much going on)

Note: Going was the Wife's Idea.

Ohio's not far from you Caff, you could come to Ohio Con, Ohio Comic Con, or even a few of the other smaller (usually game-based) conventions.

It's really strange being in one of the most populated cities (within the top 15) in the country yet so little events like this actually happen here...

And when they do, it's usually a relatively small showing.

But a decent celeb list overall.

I'm all for Dear Leader visiting our humble state, maybe we can do an Ohio BRBU meetup thing if he ever does, there's like what 4-5-6 of us here?

Colossal or Ohaiyo are two that I know of in your state that would be something I would consider attending

Collosalcon is in Sandusky, I'd be willing to do that, if you'd be willing to only do the 1 or two days and one of the days we go to Cedar point... because... cedar point is fucking awesome.

And I didn't even know Ohayocon existed until you posted this... that is held at the same place I went.
It's down the street from the OSU Campus, the North Market (our local regularly open Market-style eatery and grocer building), the Arena District (a small local brewery and Nationwide arena, where the blue jackets play), as well as down the street from the Short North (home to http://www.kingmakerscolumbus.com/ and a bunch of small bars and restaurants).

The Convention Center is quite literally in the Center of all these things... It is attached to a Hyatt hotel.

I may be willing to go to Ohayocon but the friend is more into Anime than the wife. I have only watched a few myself (but enjoy them most of the time I've watched them).

Well, lets see here, You, Me, Swain, Luca, my wife isn't really active here but that can make 5, the friend of my wife and I, again he's not very active here (and is primarily a console gamer, Weeping Darlek on XBL if you want to ad him).

Though Sogo, I'd be up for GenCon Indy as well, if it doesn't conflict with Caff's other schedules. I have a cousin who's been trying to get me to go to it for years. (Since before caff started pushing Acen on us!)

By the way, is it about time a thread started with con listings (per state, that is stickied)?

Con Listing Thread Example:
Ohio:
Ohayocon - Columbus | January 30th - February 1st, 2015
Collosalcon - Sandusky | June 4th - June 7th, 2015
Ohio Comic Con - Columbus | 2015 TBD

Looking up other Ohio Cons, Zipcon (Akron), the Akron Zips is the name of the school's team, so that's a college-con.
Armegeddon, it's being held in the same hotel I actually had my wedding and reception in... won't be big. Animarathon in Bowling Green, Bowling Green is a town that is literally nothing but the college and that's about it. So... that's a college-con.

Then there's Matsuricon I don't know much about it, but that's being held at the Hyatt downtown (same place as convention center)... so that could be bigger. That one's in August.

WW is supposed to be a good one, I know people that have gone to one out here.

Regarding standards for Con listings, I try to stick to naming the con, location, and dates in the THREAD TITLE to make it easy for people to find stuff Tongue

Heh, one important thing - I do not leave the con (eg. Ceder Point Trip). If there's a con going on I could be showing off cosplay that I've poured hours and hours of work into.

Fine then stay an EXTRA day to go to Cedar Point, because... again, Cedar Point is awesome. Besides, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Sundays are the least popular days to go to Cedar Point (therefor would have less people).

Cedar Point is amazeballs, definitely worth its own trip, let alone its own day. If any of these trips involve a BRBu field trip to Cedar Point, I'd seriously consider the drive up, it's only 7 hours and goes through Pittsburgh where Vera lives.

Make note: The Mantis (standing coaster) is currently shut down.

They're revamping the cars, and repainting the ride, and giving it a new name.

Info on it here (including videos and first person renders)

As stated before: It's the same track as the Mantis, probably with some maintenance updates, just a repaint and new cars.

Personal favorite coaster (of all time, including ones I've ridden at Disney, and Universal), is The Maverick, it's not super fast (60 mph), it's not super long. It's just super fun.

The magnetic acceleration in the second half of that reminds me of one of my favorites, Volcano: The Blast Coaster at King's Dominion in VA:

My all-time faves have to be Alpengeist and Big Bad Wolf at Busch Gardens in VA (BBW is unfortunately closed now DSmile

Those look awesome, and I do love hanging coasters.

If we're going to do this shit I'm going to have to lose some weight (last time I went to Cedar Point I was too big for some of the rides, and I have a feeling it's a larger percentage now Undecided)

Typically at Cedar Point I ride the Raptor twice (I always ride it once before we leave, because after walking around all day my feet start to hurt, and the g-forces on my legs and feet feel freaking amazing by that point).

Also, due to my former proximity to Cedar Point, I am quite good at planning routes through the park for maximum ride possibility through the day (hitting most of the coasters at least twice).

Also, for those interested, there's a beach side exit (that you can hand stamp). Outside that exit there is a jet ski rental place, I've done that too (friend and I did it when our feet were super sore).

Also, yes, Lake Erie has beaches... they're not very good (usually) but nearto cedar point (as a major tourist destination) they keep it pretty nice.

I used to be able to do the same thing at King's Dominion & Busch Gardens, both are <1hr drive from Richmond. I had a season pass to BG, was one of the best decisions I've made in my adult life.

You know I've looked up some things, can you link me to the Ohio Con official site because everything I'VE been seeing has stated that Ohio Con got bought by Wizard World and is what is now the Ohio Comic Con (which I attended).

I live in Indianapolis and went to GenCon for the first time this year.  Super awesome time, though the focus is much more on table top/card gaming, there is still plenty of other stuff to do.

I have been to Cedar Point and it is by far the best amusement park I have ever been to.  I LOVE Maverick!

So if colossalcon is a thing we're all agreed, the con + a day for cedar point?

Tentative attendance for me (job a bit too in flux at the moment to commit 100%), as long as someone can book at room at the main convention hotel Id likely make the trip out. Its very important to get the con hotel for me since its a huge pain in the ass for cosplay otherwise.

I would likely skip cedar point though.
