What do you guys put in your utility slots?  Ships seem to come with a lot of them, but they don't seem to be all that relevant.

I think I'm going to buy this ship. I'm almost there in terms of money. It'll give me a much better jump range, cargo capacity, etc. I really want to like the Diamondback Scout, but the internal compartments turn me off. It's only got 4 of them. Meanwhile, it has 4 utility slots, which seems like an excessive amount. I can't really figure out what to do with more than 3, short of stacking shield boosters.

Bought a hauler to make some trader money, outfitted it pretty nice, needed to make a smuggling run to replenish my trading funds and some asshole interdicted me and blew me up in no time flat. I almost made the escape vector too.

I managed to recover thanks to a rare trading route I found online. I'm making pretty solid space bucks now in my hauler. This is definitely a less fun ship to drive than even the sidewinder, but it's good at its job of getting a solid cash flow to work on getting a better ship. I think I'll have enough for a cobra soon.

You should figure out your first profession and start outfitting your sidewinder for it.  Trading rares is probably the most profitable but can be a little boring after a while.  It might be something you want to start with though to get used to flying.  You can find good rare routes by googling.  You could also try mining, which I hear is a great way to earn money early.  Finally, there is combat - which frankly your sidewinder will suck at.  It gets more fun when you get used to the game and get a ship you like and start outfitting it they way you want it.  The cobra is probably the best all around ship for most of your mid career, but it sucks off the rack and you are probably better off with another ship between your sidewinder and it.  The hauler is good for making spacebucks but is the most frustrating and clunky ass ship I have flown.  It's literally a space truck.
