You gotta remember that they techincally "aren't" zombies..just victims of an extreme rabies virus sorta deal. If you listen closely when they pursue you or you sneak on them. You can hear them saying things..including "DIE".

You also see them holding their chests, throwing up, looking sick / in pain.
Some times they sit or lay down of their own accord.
It's a little disturbing but very well done.
