I'm going to assume you also have to stand still, throw the ball up, and hit it (probably all automatic) to actually use the weapon. If that is the case, which I think it ought to be, then you standing still and not double jumping is a good enough trade off for stunning an enemy.

A scout without a double jump is like a heavy without a minigun, or a sniper without a sniper rifle, or a demo without a huge blast radiuses for his stickies. Over my time as scout, I learned a crapload of paths and trick jumps only a scout could make. That's how I try to keep ahead of the enemy. Without a double jump, you mind as well slap a huge target on my forehead and throw me into a swarm of soldiers and demos.  >Sad

In Dustbowl clusterfucksville you can hardly use double jumps to do anything productive anyway. You probably aren't going to use this as often in a more spread out map. These updates are meant to make scout a viable option in areas he couldn't do anything before in.

I think it's potentially interesting, though not at all what I expected from a melee weapon replacement.  It basically sounds like a weapon to try and make Scout's useful on maps they normally are difficult to be effective with, by totally changing how the class plays.  Also it sounds like it will be full of teh epic bugs.  Also I hope other Scouts can hit the ball back.  Also Pyro's can probably reflect it which will be much lulz.

Oh, and... the scout may lose his double jump, but he'd still keep his speed. Wouldn't make him as useless as

After thinking about it, it will help balance the scout a bit.  He gets creamed super quick in any map or section of a map where there is a bottleneck and can have trouble on CP maps because he just has to sit there vulnerable.  The scout is only safe while moving.  This will probably round him out more.  It seems like it would really change his playstyle though.  He'd be far more effective for harassment defense and for CP maps.  It wouldn't be useful for CTF maps though.

The only thing I'm not comfortable with is being able to stop ubers.  Scout is not a defensive class, he is a scout.  When used for D his job is to call out enemy locations and to waste the enemies time, maybe pick a couple off.  He shouldn't be hanging out by the sniper to pick off ubers.

i dont see why people think that letting classes be 'round' is good, thats like giving the sniper a way to defend himself at close range, its stupid.
TF2 is meant to be a fancy version of rock paper scissors, stop this 'give the pyro a long range weapon, let the heavy work well without a medic, let the medic steal health shit, they should have not updated dick. saying that im probably gonna use the new bat for shits n giggles.

Yeah the only thing I'm really worried about this is at choke points when you have send in an uber to clear out some sentries or what not. Hopefully it will be slow enough to where the scout will have to be sneaky about it lest they get mowed down in the process.
