If you want to farm or demolish obscene amounts of falling materials (i.e. gravel/sand that fall when a block below them is destroyed) destroy the lowest part of the falling material (referred to as F.M.) and quickly put a torch before the block above it falls. If done correctly, the blocks will fall on the torch, chopping all blocks above it into lootable blocks as if you destroyed them yourself! Joyous day!

P.S.

Sometimes the blocks won't automatically fall; to get them to fall just destroy the block directly above the torch.

No, it doesn't spawn flint when you do it that way.

I've had it spawn flint on numerous occasions.

Oh, so it spawns flint only if it doesn't spawn flint.

Blocks affected by gravity can be harvested quickly by placing a Torch on a solid block below, then allowing the entire stack to tumble onto that. However, this tactic will not yield flint; you must manually mine gravel if you wish to increase your supply.

I Use this quite often when mining out my caves. Big time saver if you're obsessive about mining through gravel like me. Watch out for lava :V
