okay, how do we get rid of them? can they just be deleted? or what are we all going to do?!?! so annoying!!!!!!!

They still come back sometimes.

I made a new mine to escape them but now they're all over that one as well. They aren't always there when I connect, but it's often enough to be annoying.

Hold crouch when mining near lava and slimes, problem is indisputably solved.

The only foolproof method I've found is to cut them and get them to split once, then disconnect->reconnect and they're gone.

I got burned to death once just by standing near a hidden pit of lava, meaning that there was no exposed lava at all.

I tried the crouching technique last night while mining, and next thing I knew, I heard one "splat" and I was swimming in lava.

Lava spits fire that can light you up if you're nearby, slime or no. I just avoid it or dump water on it, personally.

You can technically "kill" slimes by dumping them or leading them towards lava.  BUT, I'm sure demon or faye or someone important can easily disable slimes from spawning in the server config files.  *Sigh* if only Slimes were working mobs.
