It's a cardboard box, cut down so it will fit into the basement rafters. It's passively cooled except for a case mounted 60mm Delta.

AMD K6 400mhz,  ~300MB ram, AT motherboard, 1gb Seagate hard drive (run every day of it's life since 1997), onboard video, two Realtek 10/100 nics with cut down brackets, patch cords glued in place and PSU hardwired to on. I think it's been rebooted three or so times since I put it up there in 2003.

I demand pictures of the cardboard PC

Used the same case for the 'puter I built for my bro. Only thing I didn't like is that the pci cards were a little wobbly, but nothing to really worry about.

Screwdriver. You used one to assemble your case, right?

My Rig still sucks. I'm probably just going to build a new box once i7's get cheaper. But that means I need money...

I could probably salvage my RAM (depending on the new Mobo) my video card (if I don't buy another) and my monitor. Hell, could probably keep my PSU and CD drive too.

meanwhile versus still spent $150 extra on that ps3 TE when he could've just bought a $50 accessory and paid for labor for someone to install it for him so his 360 TE would work on ps3.

what I'm getting to is: versus' dad spends too much fucking money.

I might have too many computers...

Gaming rig (Complex Automaton 5):
Custom build, my fifth in the last 9 years
  • ASUS M2N32-SLI Premium Vista Edition
  • AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ (2.71 GHz)
  • 4 GB (2x 2GB) Corsair XMS2 RAM (DDR2, can't remember what rate, running Dual Channel)
  • GeForce 8800GT (XFX I think? I can't remember, Negatehooked me up with it since my last one blew up. Thanks Negate!)
  • Seagate 120GB SATA HDD
  • Seagate 160GB SATA HDD
  • Western Digital 160GB SATA HDD
  • Western Digital 320GB SATA HDD
  • Western Digital (Caviar Green) 1TB SATA HDD
  • Western Digital (Caviar Green) 1TB SATA HDD in an Antec MX-1 eSATA enclosure. Note: don't take that case on an airplane, they think its a bomb and ALWAYS want to search your bag. Every time.
  • Generic SATA DVD-RW drive
  • All of the above is sitting in an Antec 300 case with a Corsair 800 watt power supply in it. It's also got all of the fanbays full, since I didn't want any more melting graphics cardcooling issues.
  • 2x generic 19" LCD monitors (running at 1280x1024, but they're a mismatched pair, unfortunately)
  • Saitek Eclipse Keyboard
  • Razer Diamondback Optical Mouse
  • Printer paper taped to my desk as my mousepad
  • Generic 8GB Flashdrive for ReadyBoost caching
  • Creative HS-1000 USB headset. I don't even have speakers on this rig, because I just use the headset all the time.
  • Running Windows 7 Pro (thanks caff!)

Home Theater computer (HTPC): note: I need a better name for this one, and Entertaining Automaton just doesn't sound right to me. Maybe Amusing Automaton? Eh, I dunno.
http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/Public...er=7137085
  • Foxconn A7GM-S uATX mobo (ASUS clone, actually pretty solid)
  • AMD Athlon X2 4050e Brisbane 2.1GHz Socket AM2 45W
  • Patriot Viper 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) (dual channel)
  • SAPPHIRE 100234VGAL Radeon HD 3450 512MB 64-bit GDDR2 (fanless, runs hybrid crossfire with the onboard Radeon HD 3200 chip)
  • Western Digital (Caviar Black) 750GB SATA HDD
  • Western Digital (Caviar Green) 1TB SATA HDD
  • Generic SATA Bluray/HD-DVD combo drive (yes, both HD formats, bitches)
  • Sitting in an Antec Veris Fusion Black case.
  • Connected to a Westinghouse 42" 120Hz 1080p LCD HDTV
  • And I use a Microsoft 7000 Media Desktop Bluetooth Mouse & Keyboard, plus a generic MCE IR remote to control it.
  • Generic 4GB Flashdrive for ReadyBoost caching
  • Running Windows 7 Pro (thanks duck!)

Gaming Laptop (Ambulatory Automaton 2):
Dell Studio XPS 1640
  • Intel Core2Duo (Penryn) 2.53GHz 25W processor
  • 4GB RAM
  • 500GB SATA 7200 RPM HDD
  • Slot-loading DVD-RW drive
  • 15.4" WXGA 'edge to edge glass' display (runs at 1366×768) with a builtin webcam and the crazy leather accent panel on the back.
  • Extended 9-cell battery
  • Running Windows 7 Pro (thanks duck!)

Work Laptop:
Dell Latitude D830
  • Intel Core2Duo (Penryn) 2.5GHz processor
  • 2GB RAM
  • Seagate 320GB SATA 7200 RPM HDD
  • 15.4" WUXGA high-resolution display (runs at 1920x1200)
  • When in the office, it's also connected to a Dell D/Port (port replicator) dock, and a Soyo Pearl 24" DYLM24E6 LCD. It was literally the smallest one I could find with the same native resolution as the laptop itself.
  • Running Windows XP (I do software development in a program that requires XP to work, so no upgrading to 7 on this one DSmile

I've got another beater laptop, a Toshiba (the original Ambulatory Automaton) with a 1.4GHz single-core Celeron, 1GB of RAM and a 120GB HDD, but the LCD bezel is falling apart and the battery is toast. Thinking about turning it into an essentially headless Windows Home Server with the addition of a couple large USB HDDs. Haven't decided yet though.

Pics maybe later if I feel like stroking my epeen some more.
