Next Monday we should all get together for some Murder Mystery Shenanigans with The Ship

Note this is the free HL1 mod and not the $15 HL2 mod, if it proves to be awesome we can see about getting the $15 one and having some regular murder parties.

Server will be the regular mod server @ 205.237.100.92:27025    Password will be point

Mongoose has got everything set up for us, we can do either easily.  Goose warned me of *potential* stability problems with the HL1 mod so be prepared.  This is really the only substantial difference between it and the retail.  So unless it's bad HL1 will still be best because it offers the ability to play more mods.

Also to get you excited:

Imagine a game in which you don't know who to trust, you don't know who may be about to kill you, in fact you don't even know who is human and who is artificial. Played online, your quarry is another human player but can you find them amongst the AI inhabitants of the Ship? Once you know who they are, find yourself a weapon but keep an eye out for security guards and cameras. If you're spotted trying to murder someone you'll be transported to the Brig and suffer a hefty fine. If you succeed in killing your quarry Mr. X will reward you with a cash prize, depending on how entertaining he found your murder. At the same time you must look after yourself, wash, sleep, eat and have fun and remember - always look over your shoulder because somewhere there's a player looking for you!

Damn you non-HL-sourcers.  I might be up for the newer version though.

Newer version costs $15, this one costs $10 for HL1 if you don't have it, and you get to play NS and others.

Not to say we won't upgrade, if everyone really likes it.

I've always wanted to give this one a go, but I don't have HL1 so I'd have to buy that.

The only problem with this plan is that if we enjoy it and want to upgrade to the source version that means $10 + $15 = Sad

OK I'm putting up a poll then.  We got a week, I don't mind buying one for myself.

Thing is, I'm not entirely sure the HL2 one is better, but I haven't played both of them enough to know.

Voted for the HL1 version. I can't imagine that there are significant gameplay changes, so I'm voting for what's cheaper here. Assuming both are equally fun (and I don't see why they wouldn't be), we could have more potential players for the HL1 version (as it's cheaper), as well as encouraging people to HURRY UP AND BUY HL1 IF THEY DON'T ALREADY!!!

edit: To those saying "GET THE HL2 VERSION," have you actually tried it yet? How is it compared to the HL1 version? No sense in burning $15 on something that might not be worth it.

I haven't played the HL2 versions multiplayer, but from it's singleplayer, it felt quite different from the HL1 version.

I lack a Goldsrc program so I lack a means of playing this mod for free.

I'm sad. :<

I got my copy of HL1 as a gift, I could always pay it forward, or gift duck back the ship in return.  I'm no longer broke as a joke.

I'd say  to get the HL1 version since that one will enable you to play other hl1 mods we will be playing down the line.
hl2 version of the ship will only enable you to play just that.

Take off the HL2 vote and add it to the HL1 vote, it was me.  Sort of flipped a coin but based on the arguments presented I think we should do the HL1 mod.

Plus goose already has the ship HL1 mod loaded into the server, and I'd like to try to minimize the work I make him do since he is just doing this out of kindness.

So @ 0 votes for HL2 I'm calling it now so people have plenty of time to get set up.

Some random guy on the board posted that the HL1 mod was funner than the retail version.  So if you trust the opinion of some random guy, then HL1 mod is for us.

http://dlsrv01.moddb.com/bdbfc33dd1cfde5...BGuide.pdf

Also that's the players guide, I would recommend some reading up on this so the learning curve won't be too high.
