Now that Metal Gear Solid 4 has been released, and Soul Caliber 4 is on its way, I think it's high time for me to pick up a PS3, only problem is, Sony's SKUs make absolutely no sense to me :p Any way you guys could help me out?

What I want is:
*A PS3 that I can buy in a real store (As in not from Ebay or a similar site)
*The version with the most Gigs
*One with the new dual shocks instead of the Six axis
*One that is preferably at least partially backwards compatible, I don't think they make any that have the Emotion Engine anymore, but like I said, I don't understand the SKUs at all.
*One that is either $400 or less

Last two are more flexible than the rest. Is there anyway to get them all? Or has Sony announced a upcoming price drop/new SKU that I should hold out for?

Unless you ravage all your local store you probably won't find the 80 gig MGS bundle with dualshock 3. As for future sku's, nothing i know of. :-[

What Mission said. The only SKU that follows those first few parameters is the MGS 80 Gig. It's either that or buy a refrub 60 Gig and buy a dualshock with the money left. If you're local EB is lucky to have a refurb 60 then it'll be $400 I think..maybe $450?

Hmm. Is thier any way I can get an 80 GB sans bundle? I can always buy Dual Shock 3s later, if it's to hard to get them later.

60 GB with Emotion Engine would be awesome, but I doubt I'll have any luck finding one if it's discontinued.

BOO

Fuck that idea, if you want to play PS2/1 games, why not UPSCALE their resolution and use a PS3 if you are able to, its one less thing to hook up to your TV and less clutter overall. Hell if my Wii could play NES/SNES cartrages, I wouldn't have them hooked up to the TV at all.

Also, who cares about the bundle, you'll be kicking yourself later if you get the fourty-gig fail-box that can't BC any PS2 games.

There have been rumors of a patch being released to give the 40 gig bc as well as 120/160 gig versions. I would ebay a 60 gig, but i don't want to get screwed should the unit fail.

Like Caff said..a 20 or 60 Gig. It'd be smart to try to find a new one though instead of used. They are out there..somewhere..

A) Manufacturers warrenty

B) Repair - if you send it in, you should get a 60 gig back, or a unit with the same capabilities ie-emotion chip, they won't send you back a 40gig, you could sue in small claims and complain to the BBB, it would be like if you took your car in for repairs, it goes in with 6 cylinders and comes out with 4.

Somewhere, but I don't shit rainbows yet. still, I'm waiting, the bundle was the most viable solution for a price/functionality ratio. costing roughly 30$ more than buying a 40 gig + metal gear separately. I'd never buy this current 40 gig so I'm hoping for the future if the other one doesn't play ps2 games than at least it will optimize the size so i can fit a ps2 next to it, which maybe I won't for lack of ps2 games i want to play except ... metal gear essentials, shadow of the colossus

Also, since my snes is dead, I think I'm going to give in to the virtual console and at least get donkey kong 1 2 and 3 just for the epic music and maybe street fighter 2 for kicks and hadoken.

Also why the fuck can't they work a fuckin emulator on their console! fuck i can play all the older gen consoles on my comp. lazy asses i'm sure they can work something out.

Meh, I really don't want to mess with eBay. How likely is it I'll find a 20/40 Gig for sale? I want backwards compatibility, but thats starting to look less viable. What about the 80GB? Is that still for sale? I checked on wikipedia and it said that it has "software emulation." How is that diffrent from the emotion engine?

Sorry for all the questions, a PS3 is a rather large investment, and I want to make sure I don't regret my purchase.

From what I understand, and don't hold me to this, is that the original SKUs (the 20 and 60 gigs) had actual ps2 hardware in it for backwards compatibility.  All SKUs after have software emulation and aren't 100%.  I know its not that hard to switch out the ps3 HDD in the original SKU as well so that is what you want if possible.

SKU Explination

60 Gig - PS2 Hardware built in, Card reader, Wireless LAN

20 Gig - PS2 hardware built in, no card reader, wired LAN

80 gig - NO PS2 hardware, software emulation 66% - 75% emulation ability, wireless(?)

40 gig - No PS2 hardware, no software emulation, wired(?)

Listed in order of fail from least to most, use eBay, I bought a BROKEN 360 on Ebay for $75, sent it to MS and they fixed it for free, just had to buy a HDD, controller, and video cables. Came out to $250 when all was said and done, bought it all on eBay and I got a Premium package for the same price as a Wii.

When you buy something on ebay you GET the warranty with it, it transfers with the product, if it is no longer under warranty and advertised to work, its not hard to lodge a complaint and get your money back, just check to see their seller rating, if its modestly high odds are you are very safe.

Yea I plan on getting a 60 gig by the end of the month. I'll probably get one along with one of those people who sell a shit ton of games.

By the way, hate to get off topic, but I might be putting my Wii on Ebay soon. Do you guys think it'll be worth it?
