After seeing someone else was a fan of STALKER in my intro post, are they any others?  This new one is looking to be many times better than the Shadows of Chernobyl, simply because they are bringing about better graphics and since they have the engine there already, it will hopefully lead to a more stable game.

For those unaware of these games, the basic idea is set around the Chernobyl explosion in '86, where it turned the neighboring land into a harsh wasteland filled with mutant creatures and cut throat mercenaries and bandits trying to get the unique items that have been created in the aftermath.  That's pretty much my favorite setup for a story lol

Here's a few trailers of Clear Sky which is coming out September 5th.

I was having fun with the original until all within the same area I...

1) Had a mission objective I was supposed to find cease to exist at it's appointed location

2) Was killed numerous times by a Bloodsucker DURING A CUTSCENE, until I realized I was able to walk around the cutscene trigger zone.

3) Was still unable to ever kill the Bloodsucker, despite hitting it with 8 shots from a SPAS-12.

4) Had an NPC I was supposed to rescue shoot me to death and THEN try to talk to me.

So if they can fix the balance and bugginess, I am looking forward to it.

Yeah the big problem of the original was that it was worked on for too long and then shoved out at the end, full of bugs and glitches.  I still managed to beat the game a few times with them, but it was certainly a challenge at times.  Seeing the game now, I'm hoping they had plenty of time to fix the big problems it had before.

Really looking forward to this.  I always thought STALKER was cool but never bought it due to hearing about the buggyness and all that.

Clear Sky looks to fix that and alot more, so I'm excited for it ;D

STALKER is excellent, _almost_ like a Fallout FPS. Awesome.

However, tempted to smite for not noticing the omgwealllovestalker post

STALKER really isn't that buggy if you install all the patches.  The only ones I got were a few uncompletable side missions and the occasional crash.  I'm looking forward to Clear Sky, but I'm going to wait a few months.  There's just too many other great games coming out at that time.

Bought Stalker a few months ago, beat it in about 70 hours. Loved all of it. I'm anticipating Clear Sky.

Yikes, sorry about that.  Glanced through a page or two and must've overlooked it.

So I'm not the only one who had that bloody thing killing me during that part. I tried waiting for 3 minutes around that place, but it's like he's triggered to attack you when you step there...

Anywho, Clear Skies looks amazing.  Shame it's a day before Spore... :-\

The first STALKER game was AWESOME, I totally f***ing loved it...

UNTILL

I reached the end of the game. I had so much money I could buy all the stores in the game, and guess what my character said to the wishmaker?

"I want to be ... rich."

Your own fault for going for the shitty ending.

Did you play through again?  There are multiple endings.  It depends on what you do.  If you horde your cash, you get the awful ending.  If you do alot of missions, get your ranking up, and spend your cash on weapons and gear, I think you'll get the better ending.  Trying to remember since it's been so long since I tried doing the endings...

You get a different shit ending depending on what you do, but to get the good ending you don't even go to the wishmaker.

I don't remember exactly where but if you explore some more you find more to the level.

Also, I got the rich one first time too

Well, it kind of killed my feelings for that game. Dx But yeah, I was told about the multiple ending thing, so.. I was thinking of doing the game once more, BUT, with the new one releasing soon, I'll probably just wait for that one instead.

There's basically two types of endings.

*SPOILERS*

At the end area, you have the choice of going to the wishmaker or if you did a mission you were supposed to finish you'll be able to go a different way.  All wishmaker endings are bad.  All alternate endings are good.  The mission that allows the true endings basically involves finding out about Strelok, it's not hard to do.

Make sure to check out the STALKER community over at GSC.  If you've played the game thoroughly up to the ending, you can get some amazing mods to make the game practically brand new.  Look for Oblivion Lost which includes cutout monsters, better AI, and other tweaks.  There's also a whole new story mod that runs along the same lines as the game, but with some new stuff to do called Priboi Story.  I think version 1.1 might be out and they'll be releasing a whole new level eventually.
