I see some Rock Band topics, but what about Guitar Hero?  If it wasn't for the fact that Rock Band has more consistent DLC, I'd say GH3 is my favorite right now, though the last two DLC packs have been pretty awesome, first bringing out the Virtuoso Pack with Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, and Buckethead.  Then just yesterday they released the Dragonforce pack.  I personally find the band to be just an awful generic power metal band, but the music makes for crazy charts.  I can almost beat two of the new Dragonforce songs, but the picture below pretty much says it all for Through the Fire and the Flames for me...

I'm also stoked for Guitar Hero: World Tour.  Yes it's like Rock Band, but there enough new gameplay features and some unique game things like specially designed characters (Ozzy Osbourne, Zakk Wyle, Travis Barker, Jimi Hendrix, and probably more) to make for some fun characters on top of custom ones.  And to me, Guitar Hero is still the most visually appealing where Rock Band is more simplified.

And with both games working with either instruments, I can just buy Rock Band 2 the game and get the GH: World Tour set which I think will be the better guitar and cooler drumset and not have to worry about switching between them.

I don't play online much, but if you want to and have the DLC for Guitar Hero 3, I'd be up for some playing since hardly anyone I play has the DLC.

I don't have GH3 anymore because I got stuck on it on expert and just bum it off of friends now. I will however be picking up World Tour and the RB2 disc.

I'd like music games a lot more if they would actually put good music in it for a change...

This. The first Guitar Hero had good music. Haven't cared for the music in any of the others though.

What kind do you think is good?  I thought GH3 had a pretty reasonable selection this time around with some bum ones around the middle.  The final tier was also pretty awesome.  Certainly a better selection for the main setlist than Rock Band did which was pretty dull.

I pirated GH III and was glad I didn't pay for it.  Tracklist was decent, but the note charts were retarded and didn't make any fucking sense, especially on Expert.  I don't like Rock Band's main setlist much, but they made up for in with DLC.  And it's awesome to play with a group of people.

However I did play the original Guitar Hero wai before anyone else.  I bought it a month after it released and played it constantly until GH II.  They fuckin' owe me too, I must've sold a dozen people on getting the game for themselves.  It was a great pickup game when I was doing my internship...

I still love GHII, but thought that GHIII could have been much better, both in music selection as well as in gameplay/visuals/music selection.

I covet rock band, though i have yet to buy it.  I think i'll wait until rock band 2 comes out.  Then i'll be ScottyG's permanent drummer.

Well I hate 99% of rock and 99% of mainstream music, I have no illusions that my music taste (Jazz/Drum and Bass/Old skool Hip Hop/Reggae/Dub/A lot of other stuff) will ever be catered to by the teeny bopper/mainstream obsessed music game makers... So I'm a difficult case... Audiosurf ftw...

Almost all of Harmonix is part of their own bands, though obviously they have to keep a fairly mainstream song selection to sell their game and all.  The bonus songs section of their games (especially GH 1) were awesome though.  You should see their Frequency/Amplitude games too, those might have some stuff more to your liking (and some of it still sucks).  And they're talking about plans to make a new music creation game next...

I bought Guitar Hero 3 for PC.  Huge mistake.  Huge rubber-banding makes the game almost unplayable.  Then I just got Rock Band for Wii.

I must of spent 100+ hours in GH2 (Probably more), but I found the charting in GH3 was really off, so I've been a Rock Band fan since then.

I've been stuck on the final boss level on expert in GH3 for almost a year now. Safe to say I've given up.

I hate GH3 with a passion. The note charts suck, the songs suck, the in-game ads suck, the battles suck, the hammer-ons suck, the art style sucks, the star power bar sucks, the DLC sucks, the menu screen sucks, and the high score list sucks. The guitar excellent though.

As a guy who owns all 3 Güitar Heroes and has defeated Thru the gayness and stoopid, I must say Guitar Hero is the lesser of all 3.

GH2 is better due to more selection, and of course, Trogdor.

However GH1, despite it's technical lack of hammer-ons, remains even better due to it's greater range in music.

Yeah but you can put GH1 into GH2 =O.  That's what I did anyways, so I could finally beat Cowboys from Hell c.c

I enjoyed these games but they really don't beat playing the real thing, which they made me go right back to.
