I'm working on a christmas gift for the girlfriend, it's between kindle or a DS.

My mother has a kindle, if you read a lot it's pretty awesome. I probably game a little more than I read, so my pick would be a DS.

Kindle looks cool but IMO the technology is still too young, another year or two and something dramatically better and cheaper will be out.  Personally I'm holding out for the young ladies illustrated primer (someone will know what I'm talking about).

im kinda hoping the do some sort of sale, otherwise im thinkin thats too expensive for me.

Kindle feels too gimmicky for the price.  It's really cool and all but not worth the $300-$400 or so just to have a mobile e-reader... that can only read "books" that you purchase in PDF format in order to even use it.
