oh

i was just making hypothetical anwho. ithink he's only going to use a 22 so 1680x1050 for him

Thank you  ;D  What do you whippersnappers know about computers anyway  Tongue

Those were the days, I still remember my boss making me sell some used obsolete RAM to some poor women as new.  Her RAM went bad and they didn't sell it anymore but by some crazy coincidence right when we were about to call her to tell her she was SOL and needed all new shit some dude came by with a POS computer that had the same RAM he wanted to get rid of.

Also because of child labor laws I could only work for computer parts under the table, didn't bother me any  ;D

Yea ignore that, apparently shit got even simpler since my PC building days.  Also keep in mind that I was actually building computers for a PC repair place when I was 14.  Also he taught me how to do it in 15 minutes.

http://www.pcguide.com/byop/byop_Setting...umpers.htm

Not sure if jumpers even exist on these fancy new SATA drives, but with the old style (with the big ribbon cable) they're easy:
- master: the "primary" hard drive, the one that gets booted from if there are multiple hard drives on the cable.
- slave: not the master.
- cable select: whether or not the hard drive is the only drive on the cable, or which connection it uses on the cable, determines whether or not it is master or slave.

For harddrives, all that stuff should be clearly labeled on the harddrive and cable.

Again though, for those fancy new SATA drives this might not even be relevant. Just know that you very likely won't have to worry about it for your motherboard, and if it's wrong on the hard drive worst case is it won't boot correctly.

pass on that. lets try and find you one with a better contrast ratio (more colours on screen at the same time ) and a better response time ( for teh games )

22" -
$320
or
$270
or
$300

24''
$400difference between yours and this is HDMI in , higher contrast ratio , and better brightness

I've heard very good things about this 24" BenQ. Didn't link to a shop because I'm not really down with which American outlets are reputable but seems to be around the $375 mark.

SATA drives CAN have jumpers, but they're limited to "1.5Gb/s mode or not".

Needless to say, my 160GB Seagate drives had them for such and I removed them right off the bat.

That one looks nice, but Futureshop seems to be the only one carrying it.  Every other store only seems to have the W2452T instead, which doesn't have HDMI.  Maybe I should just go with a 22"...

I'm looking at this one:http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/AOC-Envis...tDetail.do
Contrast and response time look good, but I'm not familiar with the company.

and this one: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?...1913867402

Aaaaand finally this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6824005113
I think I'm leaning towards this one...10000:1 contract and 2ms response for $400.

Whew, I think I'm finally almost all set.  The last thing I have to get is speakers, and since I'm hitting my budget I'll probably just get some cheap ones off newegg or something.

Lul. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but is a soundcard really gonna make a difference with cheap speakers? Course, your definition of cheap may vary. A good pair of headphones would be a much more cost-effective purchase though, if you're looking for quality on the cheap I think.

I agree, I started gaming with headphones to block out the lifetime movies and I have to say I started to prefer it.  The one thing is that you need to get ones that are comfortable so you can wear them for a while without making your ears sore.

I have these speakers, or possibly an earlier model from the same line. They're really damn good, and a decent price if you don't mind only a 2.0 speaker setup.

Headphones are probably best anyway so I don't bother everyone in my house with a bunch of explosions and shit.  HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATIONS!  (Hopefully something from Newegg so I can get everything shipped in one giant box.)

Sennheiser if you're after quality. Just spend however much you're willing, it's really a get what you pay for scenario.
