I'm more optomistic about this one than I am for Fallout 3.  DX2 wasn't a "terrible" game, was just too short, too much of a FPS than a RPG, easy, and the whole story of your character being a JC Clone was just lame.

Loved the first game, but thought the second was pretty lame. Not as bad as most people thought but not anywhere near the first one.

Also, more info and some scans

Played the first one abit and never touched the second one.  They were okay to me, but I know they had some hardcore fans for the series.  Might give this one a look, though it'll be outside of the holiday release which is good lol

I don't care how bad or good it is. I am giddy with excitement.

Can I already pre-order it? Like 5 copies?

I'm not holding my breath for this, especially after the lack luster performance of the sequel

I've no hopes either, about the only chance is the fact Eidos Montreal is an entirely new studio afaik, so maybe there's some chance they have some good fresh staff or something.  All the profiles of the people that lead the studio are people barely related with the gaming industry to start with though, so meh =/.

I think I'll just go try some mods and the ENBSeries renderer on Deus Ex and say that's the new one.

Prequels are meh.  They just do it so they don't have to think up a reasonable story to come after the events of previous games.

Or because DX2 failed so hard as a proper sequal that it might as well not be cannon, and to base a story off the 2nd game would be much worse than going with a prequal approach.

Also, this is pretty much just going to be gears with augs.  Which might be cool, but meh, it's not DX.  Regenerating health and a cover system?  fuck that

I'm actually super happy that the gameplay is gonna be a lot different than Deus Ex.  Overall Deus Ex was an amazing game, but it had shit gameplay.

Blasphomer, regenerating health is the biggest bunch of bullshit in games these days, lets make the game super easy by letting you duck down under cover after taking a few bullets then come up like nothing ever happened.

DX had some sketchy weapons, implants, and AI, but if you fix those the system is pretty damn good.

And forcing the player to run around scampering and scavenging for medkits across huge maps is better? Both systems have their flaws, I wouldn't call it the 'biggest bunch of bs' by a mile. Ideally, I'd like to see a game with health regen for the player and enemies, but that's just me. :-X

Would you rather it rain medkits?

This forces people to be a little more cautious about when/if they use them and how they approach a situation. Have a lot of medkits? Maybe you can go in guns blazing, it not, maybe you should set some traps with LAMs and lure enemies into them or try the stealth approach.

There were some parts, especially in the beginning where they could have been less stingy, but I think its part of what makes the game fun.

In any case, I'm sure nothing will make it as awesome as the ways you could cheat in DX1.  Like when I killed Walton Simmons by throwing a LAM, causing him to run away while still green towards me, and then promptly blew him to pieces with a GEP gun.

I'm not talking about how it affects DX specifically (never played it tbh), but games in general, since you made the blanket statement that health regen is dumb. What's equally dumb is to fight your way through an area, eliminate all the bad guys with only a shred of health left, only to spend 10 minutes journeying to the next big fight to find out that with your current health, you have no chance of making it through.

Having to backtrack/redo areas in games because you technically completed them but are basically fucked for further conflicts is something I think is quite dumb with the older games. Like I said before though, different strokes for different folks.:-\

That's just bad design, all of the GOOD fps games I can think of there's some kind of health drop between areas/major fights, so that if you DO finish an area, you aren't stuck with a tiny life bar before you have to engage in a major fight.

but having < 10% health and finishing the next area is quite an accomplishment :-*.

In any case, that was never a problem in DE except very early on.  Eventually you could get a health-regen implant that made you god (not a Halo style one, it just constantly gave you health for energy XD).

Realize:

Dx1 was an FPS+RPG.  As in, medpacks were inventory items you collected and used.

Also, eventually you could choose to activate an augmentation that would drain your energy but constantly regenerate your health (as long as you had energy to spare).  And, the regen rate wasn't Halo-fast, it was about 5-10 HP/s.

DX1 also included locational damage system.  Which means certain body parts being damaged would affect your stat's/abilities in certain ways.  To heal a body part you would just click the wounded area and it would use up a med-kit to heal it.

It's strikingly famililar to how Fallout 3 is going to be actually.  Kinda sad that in order to get my DX-style gameplay fix I'm going to need to play F3 rather than DX3 (which I think will just end up being a corridor shooter ala Bioshock).
