Planetside Saturdays #7 - Drop Squad + Contest #2

Since more people are starting to get comfortable with the game and how it controls, I want to try some more advanced tactics for all of us. This Saturday we will be running a galaxy/phantasm drop squad. Both of these are inherently different and require a different amount of people to execute. To run a galaxy drop you need approximately 12 people, 10 infantry and 2 MAX units. Phantasm drops are 5 people, all infantry.

Galaxy squads do a few things, they capture hotly contested towers, they attack enemy CCs and generators, and they resecure bases that are hacked. In a galaxy drop squad you have assigned roles, the 2 MAXes (1 AV, 1 AI) are in the front being damage sponges, of the 11 infantry that drop, 2 people have AV out to kill maxes, the rest have regular guns for killing infantry. Bringing up the rear would be 1 person with advanced or expert hacking, and 1 - 2 advanced medics to revive the dead.

The phantasm is the cloaked transport and can carry 4 infantry for drops. Phantasms work more on stealth and surprise, you drop them generally on vehicles and lightly contested towers. For example you drop 4 people in rexo on top of a BFR, as long as you stay at point blank, it cant shoot you. One person's job is to jam it with EMP grenades, and do NOTHING ELSE. The other 3 people hammer it with AV fire until it dies. This typically results in the death of all of the droppers and the phantasm will pick you up again at the nearest tower. The good thing is, its 10 - 15 minutes that guy has to wait to get another robot, and you respawn in less than 60 seconds. You are not limited to BFRs, you could drop the squad on a vehicle repairing or an AMS, if you do this, someone has to have expert hacking to jack the vehicle.

For this week to I want people to 'fill roles' so to speak, this will be somewhat dependent on what your BR is...

Advanced/Expert Hackers - (Shadow and I have this, but if piloting we will need 1 more)
Certs Needed (most to least) - Medium Assault (2), Hacking (3), Adv. Hacking (2)
Extra Optional - Expert Hacking (2), Heavy Assault (4)

MAX Units (Positions filled - Versus and Benito for GAL drops only - I recommend making these separate characters so you can swap to a grunt if we aren't doing galaxies)
Certs Needed - Uni-Max (6)
Extra Optional - Medium Assault (2), Any Adv cert (Medic/Hacking) (5)

You will NOT need any vehicle certs for Saturday

Fun in this game increases exponentially with the more people that join up so I hope to see more of the people that stated they were interested in the initial thread to come out, the game is FREE, but you are restricted to BR6. If you get "suspended" or banned since the trial accounts are loopholes just make another one. Conversely you can spend $20 to pick up the game at direct2drive, which comes with a free month, this removes the restriction on your battlerank.

Versus - You can be the MAX monkey since you actually have a copy of the game and thus more certs to play around with, if you are BR12 or whatever you said, get unimax, then rexo/MA/AV if you have enough left over.

Drop grunt is easiest, and as for Maverick, it doesn't matter what your station name is, it matters what your in game name is. Id recommend both of you and surf just be grunts. Point at things and shoot, Ill post sample inventories for each role later.

I think you need BR2 to get the grunt loadout, but that's pretty much a joke to get. Any extra points should be put into medic or engineer. I recommend all of you who have not played do the tutorial missions.

One other highly important thing, I recommend everyone know the shortest route from the back door of a base to the generator and the control console from the back door, no matter what base it is. The exceptions to this are the AMP Station, Bio Lab, and Tech Plant, which have objectives on the roof of the base, as well as the basement.

If you can, get up to BR6 so you can get an implant slot. It shouldn't take long at all, just do the tutorial missions and equip every gun, one or two at a time, in the VR training room. If that doesn't get you BR6, a little bit of combat after that should get you it.
