Just finished World War Z at long last, and rather enjoyed. I was a bit late on picking it up though, so you've probably already read it.

That book was excellent, except for frozen zombies reanimating.  For a "realistic zombie" book that's a rather large discrepancy.

Anathem.  Also WWZ was good.  I'm catching up on comics now.  Jack of Fables is still awesome.  Also Alan Moore has continued his decent down the weird sex rabbit hole.

I just got into the Dresden files series by Jim Butcher.  pretty cool present day wizard in chicago fighting crime as a PI for "strange" occurances.  theres 10 in the series, and they are all pretty quick reads (which i really like).  Sci fi picked it up for a tv show but only aired 1 season i think... never saw it, but heard good things... Butcher is really fun to read, hes got a neat fantasy series too called the codex alera which my dad says is excellent.

Anything by Orson Scott Card, but I recently read The Automatic Detective and freaken loved it.  Amazing book.
I also recently read Bloodsucking Fiends which is a hilarious book about a convenience store night shift manager falling in love with a newly-turned vampire.  Hilarious.

One book that i've read repeatedly a few months ago was "The Areas of My Expertise" by John Hodgman. It's a satirical almanac, filled with information about such things as: The Mall of America, Hobo Matters, Matters Cryptozoological, how to make an attack ad targeting Johnathon Coulton, and the various shorthand terms used on a submarine.

And it's freaking Hilarious.

Recently, John Hodgman published a promised sequel to the "Areas of My Expertise" entitled "More Information than You Require".
