So I haven't synced my iPhone in a while, and after burning the Persona 3 soundtrack to my computer, I decided it was high time to do so. Only problem is, there's 2.55 GB of "other" on my phone which leaves little space for anything else. I checked it out and it's not some hidden aspect of "audio", "photos" or "apps" (tried deleting them to make sure.) Deleted all my email stored on it, but to no avail. Any one have any ideas what to do?

You could take some media off of it. Media and games take up a buttload of space.

The other? It's not photos, because they show up on the "sync meter"
It's probably firmware updates and whatnot. Even though 2 and a half gigs is an awful lot of that.

I tried that Sad Took off all the apps (didn't have any videos) and podcasts to no avail. They took up a small fraction of it. It's "other" I need to get rid of .

Well, you could always backup your numbers etc and then let itunes 'restore' the iphone... That should clean up everything but you'll have to reinstall all your apps etc...

Signature temporarily out of order until I get off my lazy ass to fix it.

Actually, a magnet wouldn't... As the iphone uses flash memory and not magnetic memory magnets should have no effect on it whatsoever...

Code:
Resolution

There could be several reasons why this could occur. Start with Solution 1. If the issue continues, try Solution 2 and, if necessary, Solution 3.
Solution 1

In the case of iPhone becoming physically disconnected in the middle of syncing music or photos, it's possible that orphaned data files will be left on the iPhone. This can result in iTunes not being able to sync to the iPhone on subsequent sync sessions.

One symptom of this issue will be displayed in iTunes where the Capacity indicator for the iPhone will report a large amount of "Other" disk usage for the iPhone. To resolve this issue:

   1. Turn off the music and/or photo sync option in iTunes for the iPhone.
   2. Click Apply to sync the changes to the iPhone.
   3. Turn the music and photo sync options for the iPhone on again.
   4. Click Apply again to try and sync the iPhone to iTunes.

Solution 2

Try turning off the automatic syncing functions for the iPhone. To do this:

   1. Select iPhone in the Source list in iTunes and click the Summary tab.
   2. Deselect "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected" and select the "Only sync checked items" checkbox.
   3. Click Apply to sync the changes to the iPhone.
   4. Reduce the amount of data that is being synced to the iPhone and resync the device. For example, if syncing your Music library exceeds the memory capacity of the iPhone, choose "Selected playlists" to sync to the iPhone rather than "All songs and playlists" under the Music tab in iTunes.

Solution 3

Restore your iPhone using iTunes.

Glad it worked out.

I know dick all about Mac products, except how to repeatedly fix my first gen iPod nano.
However I do know how to use Google, and that link was my first hit Tongue
