Hey I use both, but at least Apple had the balls to say hey guys don't expect this next release to look much different - We've been focusing on speeding things up and improving how everything works.  Windows keeps coming out with these "hey guys look how pretty shit is releases."  When things I want are: faster boot, stricter access to programs running background processes, equal or smaller footprint, better security, more efficient use of system resources.

I've been tempted to go back to ubuntu since I hear 9.04 does all of that.  Plus I freaking love linux' partitioning software.

I'm inclined to believe that only two or three people here have actually read anything about Windows 7.

O_O

This is what the inside of my mind looks like.

There is no possible way Windows 7 could fail in any respect.

If they manage to somehow play God and fix EVERYTHING that was wrong with Vista, I might consider upgrading.

Nifty

Quote:On Tuesday, May 5 (PST), the RC will be available to everyone via our Customer Preview Program. As with the Beta, the Windows 7 RC Customer Preview Program is a broad public program that offers the RC free to anyone who wants to download it. It will be available at least through June 30, 2009, with no limits on the number of downloads or product keys available.

So you don’t need rush to make sure you get your copy. When you’re ready to download the RC, it’ll be waiting for you.

So i installed Windows 7 on my main HD without creating a partition, but they created the windows.old folder for me.   Anyone know how I can revert to vista?

Also, when I select Windows Vista on the boot menu, it still boots windows 7.

The official RC is now available for download, and keys/downloads will be available through the end of June and will be good until June 1, 2010!  Downloading my copy now, and it's speeding along at roughly 200kb/s.  Gonna head to bed and install tomorrow after work, hello 7!

So is RC just another word for beta?

If so, I'm interested in trying out and then some.

Beta is where they are trying to work out most of the major bugs, a RC stands for Release Candidate.  Basically they have worked out all the major kinks and are now focusing on the little hiccups so that when the OS launches, it is as close to perfect as possible.  Its a way for MS to test the OS on a large scale of different computer configurations, and put strain on the OS that they couldn't do in their labs.  The OS is stable, but not as stable as it will be at launch.

Well in the end I reinstalled Vista, so now I'm wondering: how do I partition my one and only internal hard drive?

You can't if you've already reinstalled your OS. You have to do it at install time.

when you install windows 7, click on "advanced" or something when you choose the location to install to. this should bring up some options like "New", "Delete", etc.

select "New" to create a new partition with your desired size, then you should be OK. this is just from the top of my head, so it may not be exactly like this, but i'm sure you can figure it out.
