They don't really seem to sell 8600's anymore, dunno if it's because of that defective chipset thing.  Also an ATI 4650 or 4670 is probably a better choice than a 9600, as it offers comparable performance, is generally a bit cheaper, and most importantly, uses less power than a 9600.  I'm not sure if EITHER can be pulled of on your computer, but a 46xx card probably has a better shot.  It's a shame a 3850 probably has no chance as those are a great deal with price/performance.

ati 4830, decent brand 400W PSU. 130$ investment that will keep giving for a few years.

Can't change the PSU because Dell uses proprietary connectors. I just want something that will last me till I can build a whole new PC.

Luckily my family computer still uses standard ATX connectors Smile.

8600 GTS

9500 GT

They both say they only require a 350W PSU. Which one should I get?

The 4650 and 4670 that I saw on Newegg said they required a 400W PSU.

Neither, they are both POS for the price.  I'm sure the 46xx cards would still manage, you don't have a shitton of other stuff hooked up to the PSU, do you?

OK yeah, I found this which shows a 4650 consuming less power than an 8600.  Also performs better in a TF2 benchmark.

Good deal? 500W PSU for $48? Then I could get a better card.

Except that it wasn't a Dell compatible PSU, which makes finding a 500W for 50 bucks a grand deal. Also, a 600W for 44$ that's not on big sale or using rebates is probably a shitass brand.

I decided not to. I don't really want to put more many into this pos than I have to.
