Well I still cant believe that someone has yet to make a thread about this game due to its sheer awesomeness. Basically this game is one giant grind but with 2d characters in a 3d world. Cool monsters awesome PVP and, if you have enough friends, a much better game all around. This game started Whendilin for me so it will "Always hold a special place in my heart".
CLASSES
This game like many before and after it have lots of classes. You start the game as a level 1/1 (see level description for info on this) Novice in the training grounds. You then level up so you can change classes to your 1st class which include Swordman, Mage, Archer, Merchant, Thief, and Acolyte.
Super Novices can use an assortment of skills from all of the classes and can become 99/99 making them the most versatile class in the game.
The Swordman class is a melee offensive class that can either excel in Offense or Defense depending on whether he chooses to become a Knight or Crusader respectively.
The Mage class is your basic spell caster who can become the Wizard or the Sage both of which can deal an immense amount of magic damage. The Wizard uses massive AoE spells to cause chaos among groups. The Sage uses different abilities to stop certain effects debuff and enchant players.
The Archer Class is a basic long range offensive class that can change into a Hunter or a Bard/Dancer. The Hunter utilizes its Falcon partner to deal some damage but can also use status inflicting or damaging traps that have various effects from sleep to SP sapping. The Bard/Dancer uses songs to help out groups of people and can also use an Ensemble skill, for which you need both a Bard and a Dancer.
The Merchant class is a vendor class but can use its pushcart and MONEY(Zeny) to inflict damage. The second class for the merchant is the Blacksmith and the Alchemist. The Blacksmith excels at creating and upgrading weapons and armor while the Alchemist excels at creating Potions. The Alchemist can also call forth the mighty Homunculus to do his/her bidding.
The Thief class is the stealthy class that utilizes such to take its foes by surprise. They can become Assassins and Rogues. Assassins can use cloaking and katars to different effects and the Rogue uses daggers and bows while still using its Hide ability to catch a foe off guard.
The final regular class is the Acolyte, who is the healer of the group. They change into Priests and Monks. Monks use fisting (lol) combos to decimate an opponent and can use the OHKO Asura or Guillotine Fist. A Priest is just another buffer healer...and healer buffer...and zombie/undead killer.
The last classes are alternate classes added in updates. They are Ninja, Gunslinger, and Taekwon boy/girl. The Ninja is just a faster magic user but can also utilize Kunai and Shuriken to attack. The Gunslinger is another ranged class that can use disarming abilities along with small destructive AoE attacks. The Taekwon kids is a kicking class that has many stances that allow them to do powerful combos. They can also change into a Taekwon Master or a Soul Linker. Taekwon Master uses more kicking for more power and stellar, lunar, and solar perceptions to increase attack power. The Soul Linker is a powerful buffer that bestows different classes different pluses and is also a powerful monster killer that stuns and hits.
LEVELS
This game is based off of two different sets of levels: Base Levels and Job Levels. Base Levels is the main level in the game and you can get this to 99 before you do something called Transcending(ill explain this later). They allow you to raise your stats so you can hit harder or faster. Job levels are the second levels and this allows you to learn your skills. These skills can include Cloaking to Fire Bolt. On a non private server and most low rate servers the max base/job level you can get is 99/50 for an nontranscended character and 99/70 for a transcended character. Transcending is when a characters Base level reaches 99, you have to collect zeny(the currency in the game) and do a certain quest in order to become a High Novice. Then you start all over again as a High Novice but when you get up to the second classes they are more powerful.
PLAYER VERSUS PLAYER
PVP, also called WoE (War of Emperium) is held on certain days where guilds go and take castles for 2 hours to hold them and win fabulous prizes. This is the only way to get the "emblems" in order to create the ever sought after "God Items".
These items are used to boost some stats and give certain immunities, plus they look incredibly cool and are rare.
WOW that was really long. Ill post some reference sites if you want to know more than i told. Ive just covered the basics here. Really, this is just the icing on the RO cake. Thanks goes to Eightball for getting me hooked again. Please dont kill me over such an old game I just wanted people to know about it.
