Teaser trailer and a press release by a guy who works for the company who now owns the rights to Mechwarrior.
Thank god MS isn't doing this, they fucking raped the mechwarrior/battletech franchise Sad
Yes it pretty much is.  IGN's going to be giving "full details" to the matter on thursday.

I dunno though, these guys don't exactly have a great track record.  Their only "original IP" game they've done was some Diehard PC game in 2002 and all the other games they did was a bunch of okay PSP ports and stuff for games that were out on home consoles.

Little do they know we're going to be releasing a trailer soon for MWLL that shows some -real- in-game footage ;3 (don't tell o.o!)

This is somewhat perfect for us because it kind of makes Mechwarrior a buzzword now, even though at first when I saw the teaser footage I felt like I was being "rickrolled without the rick astley" as someone on my team put it nicely  Tongue
The guy who started FASA bought back the rights for MechWarrior? That makes me happy in the pants.

It is MW5.

And KorJax, just don't try to do what FortressForever did, and release the same day as a competing commercial product. It will kill your mod.

Also^2: MW4 to be rereleased soon, for free? http://pc.ign.com/articles/100/1002359p1.html

This x100, FF fucking delayed itself so many times they decided to release a week before TF2 came out, literally there was about 300 - 500 servers and tons of people playing it for that one week, then TF2 came out, and it dropped to like 10 - 20 servers almost overnight.

Its not just that TF2 was a superior product, but no one got a chance to settle in to FF, if you put out MWLL like say even within a month of MW5, you'll see a surge in population, followed by a steep decline into nothing Sad
I hope they don't let "casual" gamers ruin this.  What made these games great was the complexity.  It was more of a mech simulator than a fighter.  I remember controllers being made just for this game.

Since FASA is actually making it this time I would expect things to be back to their original complexity. I remember the fucking VR pods back in the day were awesome too....you had to manage the coolant levels on the highest difficulty and there were a fuckton of different buttons you had to press/manage to keep your shit from overheating and exploding

I had a chance to try the pods out at GenCon two years ago...  They had the difficulty down a bit because they had a ton of people to cycle through, though.  Piloting an Awesome without heat considerations is kinda cheater.
Part of me wishes they'd make a Steel Battalion-esque controller for this.

The other part of me is broke. Too many spray tans and speedos. It's hard being macho.

Yea....every time you got hit it was *BEEP BEEP BEEP* WARNING COOLENT LEAK *BEEP BEEP BEEP* HEAT LEVEL RISING.....FFFFFFFFFFFF

I also liked that it was all point based, there was this one map that was a large open field with some rolling hills, one guy did a Sunderer vs Owens battle, the owens lost about about 5 min of hit and run attacks, but he ended up winning because all the damage he did to the sunderer had a points multiplier for being in a 30 ton mech.

Points were broken out like X for a Kill, then Y for every point of armor/internal damage you did, and then a Z multiplier based on the tonnage of the mech. I think it was like 0.8 for 80T or higher, 1 for 55 - 75T, and 1.2 or 1.25 for 50 or lower.

Then there was a difficulty multiplier since different people could be playing with different difficulty levels, I think it was like Easy had just run, point, and shoot. Medium you had to manage heat and ammo levels, usually by flushing a fixed amount of coolant, or jettisoning ammo if it was in danger of exploding.

The highest difficulty had you manage actual coolent levels in all parts of the mech in addition to what you had to do in medium,  you were also more prone to internal damage and gyro fuck-ups.

Maybe a bit off topic, but those pods... we had to get them upstairs for Mechacon.  Problem is, there is one door, ONE DOOR, with a doorframe clearance too short for the pods to be wheeled through as-is.  So, they had to take them apart and wheel the front and back halves through separately.  Fucking hell.  The monitor / mirror assembly in the front half weighs as much as a teaspoon of neutron star.  It liked to kill the poor guys and the staffers helping out (me, for one ;_; ).

This year, I presume / hope / pray they'll be ready, because the hotel refuses to cut that doorframe to yield clearance for the pods.  And they're bringing more pods this year, I think...

Probibly not.  They don't even have a publisher yet, they just started concepting in October.  This trailer was basically them doing a pre-scripted cutscene using the game engine to try and get a publisher.

Also there's no way in hell we'd delay the release till this game is released.  I don't think we'll see this get put on store shelves until 2010/2011 at the least.

Also also I've heard rumors that there's not going to be throttle in the game, it'll just be movement-based controls (which makes sense for the 360 since throttle with the thumbstick feels awkward).  Total rumors though.

As for our mod I don't think we have anything too much to worry about.  We're all about the classic MW feel infused with newer elements such as combined arms multiplayer and modular weapons.  This game is just the classic MW lances fighting against each other in mostly urban environments from what I gathered in the interview.  And because this takes place before the clans exsist there won't be any clan weaponry/mechs (like the Madcat/Timberwolf), and I'm not sure omni-mech style customizing will be in either as according to the lore that tech wasn't perfected until the clans arrived.

So in the end there will probibly be tons of subtle differences.  Fortress Forever was pretty much a direct remake on the other hand with "sourcified" HL1 graphics (atleast that is how it looked to me).
They can just use steam, 1st ever online only major game production

You really dont *need* a publisher anymore
