Starting September 1st, 2010 the United States Postal Service is going to eliminate normal Saturday deliveries.  Express packages will continue to be delivered but every other type of package or mail item will be delivered Monday through Friday.

But you didn't hear that from me...
This.  Changes.  Everything.
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

THIS. IS. TERRIBLE.

I wish UPS delivered on Saturdays. Sad
Yeah not really a big deal with none of the other shippers have ever done this anyways with normal shipping.
No more Saturday Netflix  :'(
You know whats funny? I thought it was really quite fucking stupid mail never got delivered on Sundays. Why in the fuck would you give every single employee the same days off, this situation could EASILY be remedied by simply, oh I don't know, SCHEDULING DIFFERENT OFF DAYS FOR PEOPLE LIKE EVERY OTHER WORK PLACE. Have some of your workers take different days off while having back-up for them on the days they aren't there and nothing ever has to stop.

The problem I see in this is it takes the same number of people to deliver the mail no matter what day it is.

Well assuming postal service workers get 2 off days, the other off day is obviously set to any individual employee. There doesn't seem to be any real reason they couldn't use the same system as the secound off day to eliminate packages not being delivered on Sunday, much less impose this new bogus Saturday nerf.
This looks like a job for professor Layton!

Well for one they aren't slave drivers at the post office.  They honor the "rest of the sabbath" like every other American Company (well most I should say).  And they already do exactly what you said.  A postal carrier gets a rotating day off every week.  So if I got monday off on week 1, week 2 I would get tuesday off.  And eventually when I get friday off I get Saturday off right after it since Saturday starts the pay period.  And thats why the office has Temps like me, so when people have days off or vacations we can fill the empty routes.

And they are eliminating Saturdays because the post office is in the deep red.  By eliminating another work day, thats one less day for trucks to go out and waste gas, it allows for one less day of paying the whole office (except for clerks who have to sort the express mail on Saturdays), and it helps eliminate scheduling conflicts so that (except for vacations) everyone has the same days off every week.

I hope that this has all been helpful
