and wanted to create a new gaming computer, what would you purchase in terms of parts?  I've always purchased retail computers and added a video card or ram upgrades but never built my own and I've been informed that there is much $$ to save (or put towards a better machine).  I'm open to any suggestions or build orders if someone recently purchased a good selection of parts.

By the way hi this is my first post.  And no, I'm not a girl, this forum account is based off my char's name from Planetside, since they tend to hover these boards.  Thanks in advance for any builds/advice!
I would buy one from a pretty damn good comp builder, probably someone named something like Blues.

Hey my name is similar to Blues.

Hi there, I build computers.

Now that I'm done with my obligatory plug, I'll put together a list later on when I'm not busy trying to see straight. TALLY HO
Here are some previous threads with similar budgets in mind. Things have probably changed a little since some of them were posted, but they should help give you a good idea of what to look for.

F computers.

I'd buy some bbq hot pork rinds, Street Fighter 4, and everyone a copy of halo 3.
Halfass list before I pass back out, I'll need to check prices on video cards and CPUs to verify price to performance, and get more specific parts on the other shit, been a couple months since I built a comp.

E8500
4GB RAM
GTX260
1TB hdd cause they're like fucking 70$ now
quality mobo probably P45 or something
500-700W namebrand PSU
Centurion 534/Antec 300/random case that's dropped while I wasn't looking

sleep then work then I'll fix this up kty.

How do you go about making a list without asking if the person already has a monitor or OS they want to use?

because they are posting from a computer and hence already have the monitor. Tongue Oh, and OS's are cheap, usually free 99

You do not want to use W7 as your main OS tho, esp if you don't know anything about computers (I already know half a dozen idiots that lost a bunch of data formatting because they're too stupid/lazy to understand partitions)
