So in a Microsoft update a while back, the crafty bastards somehow switched Firefox's urlbar search engine (i.e. the search engine it automatically uses if you enter something other then a complete url) from Google to Bing. I messed around with all the settings and options I could get my hands on, but to no avail. Finally (and rather randomly, seeing as this has been going on for months, and I only now chose to do something other then curse Microsoft's name and shake my fist in the air) I tonight decided to rise out of my lethargy and ask for help. Is there anything to be done, or do I just need to reinstall Firefox. I've opened every options, settings and preference menu there is, but there's nothing to aid me. Any of you have any ideas as to what to do?

1. Click on the Bing logo in the upper right hand corner
2. Select Google
3. ???
4. Profit!
Didn't seem to happen to me bro. Are you using 3.5?

I think so, but I'll have to check.
  • At Firefox address bar, enter about:config and press ENTER.
  • At Filter: field, type keyword.url
  • You should see a Preference name of keyword.URL in the list. Double click it, a “Enter String Value” input box will appear.
  • Replace the string with:
          http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe...&gfns=1&q=
  • Click “OK” button and done!

Alternatively, instead of replacing the string just "reset" it.
