Ugh, so I managed to get a bitch and a half of a virus, possibly two.

AVG doesn't open, HiJackThis doesn't open, Spybot doesn't open, I get random lag spikes and sometimes 1-3 pop-up windows from Internet Explorer (which I don't use) open. WinLogon.exe crashes three times on startup.

TrendMicro House call is the only thing that works so far, and I found two threats, and removed them. Scan shows no threats now. (cmdow.exe: Spyware and setupold.exe: Generic were the old ones)

Suspicious processes: msa.exe, a.exe
Well for starters, open msconfig and uncheck everything in start-up. If you have any spyware that should at least prevent it from starting on boot, and might give you a speed-boost when you are trying to fix the issue.

Id try booting into safemode and then re-running all of the Anti-Virus programs that you have such as Avast!, Spybot, etc.
I'll throw it out there again...

windows system restore... seriously everyone forgets it exists - almost always fixes you right up and you really dont lose much if anything bc it happens so frequently...

but after working in pc repair for 4 years -  I'm a fan of spybot S&D.. it works for the common ones
burn an ubuntu live cd
boot into that
run anti-virus in live environment
profit?

system restore is often one of the first places a virus hides itself. If you restore, you may undo some of the damage it has done, but you very rarely get rid of the virus. Antivirus tools are useful but the only way to be sure is to nuke the site from orbitreformat.
Stop drinking

Sad

Safe mode fixed the adware/spyware/whatever the popups were. Everything runs fine now except for my anti-virus programs, which doesn't matter that much to me.

SuperAntiSpyware's Alternate Start mode appears to be working. Big Grin

Edit: the WinLogon crashes were a Trojan called WinLogonFake, there's another problem fixed.

One thing I never mentioned is that I was locked out of using the Run program and some other admin stuff. I got all my anti-virus programs working, but I still can't use the Run command. Help. ???
