So I went on ahead installing windows 7 yesterday and after restarting for the first time, during the installation it went to a black screen with a flashing white cursor (a la dos) so now I have no PC at all and am using my work and girlfriends PC. I got no clue what you guys need to know but if you want to know what I have as a PC:
Motherboard
XFX Nforce 790I Ultra LGA775 ATX DDR3 3PCI-E16 2PCI-E1 2PCI SATA2 RAID Sound GBLAN 1394

Processor
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Quad Core Processor LGA775 Kentsfield 2.40GHZ 1066FSB 8MB Retail Box

Video Card
EVGA E-GEFORCE 9800GX2 KO Crysis 650MHZ 1GB 2.05GHZ GDDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I HDMI HDCP Video Card

The Rest
500GB Hardrive
4GB of RAM

So officially fuck windows and all it stands for, hello UBUNTU 9.04!!

SO now it's gone really bad, I folded and decided to goback to xp and leave a small partition space for win7 if I can get it to to work, what I wanted to do was update my bios, then my mobo drivers then hope that would fix my drivers for my card. I ended up flashing the bios and now my pc is sitting on my dinning room table with the battery removed, hoping that my default bios will magically reset Q_Q

In related news, if this doesn't work, looks like I'll be getting a new mobo/processor
So...did you try to upgrade or do a full install?

Do you have another OS you can boot to?

Can you boot from the CD and get to the installation screen again?
Alright, so I had the upgrade disc and I can always boot the cd and get to the installation screen
I could try and make a partition and re-install XP

Yea, you might want to try to reinstall XP then reupgrade
like the only thing that comes to mine is that my retail xp is pirated legitimate, but if that was the case, usually Microsoft tells you that you might be a victim of fraud
Dunno If I'm right or not but on the website it said you could only do an upgrade from vista. For xp I think you have to do a full "custom" install.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windo...-windows-7
I bought the upgrade disc, but you get the option to select custom and do a proper wipe, (which I did).
yea, you shouldnt even be bothering with an upgrade, just do the full format/custom install.

edit: ok nvm, you did the right thing. Which version of W7 did you install? and was it 32 or 64bit? I can't really think of anything that would cause the problem you're describing, best I can say is try it again this weekend and I'll keep you in mind if I run across something that might be helpful
I've already tried the 64x and the 32x, I formated my box and made a 150000bm partiton for XP, I'm going to use the other partiton to try and boot 7 on it
So btw how do I get steam running in linux?

Good luck with that, I sure as fuck couldn't do it and there's like a FUCK TON of red tape involved in getting wine working at all.
I think I stand for the majority of this board when I say you will run into a fuckton more trouble playing games on Ubuntu than figuring out your Windows problem.
