So my family's main TV is dying, and we need to get a new one.  We want a 50 inch TV but we haven't decided whether to get LCD or plasma.  Any advice/suggestions?
LCD, or LED if you can
Plasma isn't a bad choice. It's really all preference though.

Really, cause manufactures quote a longer life of plasmas over LCDs. Panasonic lists a 60,000 hour halflife (as in the screen will be half as bright) on their models.

Plasmas are brighter, have better contrast ratios, don't have dead pixels, actually suffer less from burn in and cost less on larger screen sizes.

However, plasmas use way more power and generate way more heat. They are more fragile when moving, don't last long at high elevations (>6,000 feet) and weigh a ton.
I'm thinking Plasma, then. Once we get it on the stand it'll probably never be moved again.  Power use really isn't an issue either.
ALWAYS have whoever you're buying from deliver the plasma, that way if it's damaged in shipping and/or DOA (happens a lot because they're fragile) the liability isn't on you

Ground > Electricity

duh
wait, people still watch TV?
You need to consider some other things in addition to whether or not you want OLED, LCD, or plasma. What kind and how many inputs will you need? Do you have a receiver with a sound system? Do you need a TV that can produce a decent SD picture?

I got all the DVI cables for my office from there. They're effing huge, but most consumer cables aren't dual-link DVI. They were dirt cheap too.

Some people have friends and prefer to crowd around a bigscreen. We're just not as cool as you Zaneyard

[/quote]My coworker bought his HDMI cable from there, but the 24" monitors we have in our office only have VGA and DVI inputs (don't even know why they have VGA, though, since the resolution is too high to run on the laptop's VGA port :/)

I don't even know why I posted this... it doesn't make sense....

But, yeah. The monoprice cables are massive. I've heard from somewhere that their cables are made at the same factory that produces Monster cables... only sold for 1/100th the price.
What do you guys think of this?

That's the one I've been eyeballing for a while now, just waiting for the price to drop closer to $1k
