Pentium 4's suck. They suck so hard, that I'm ready to spend over $1,500 to get away from it. Now to the point, I want to hear some input on this build. It is currently missing some key items that I have not decided on. If you have any PSU, monitor (1920 x 1080), and CPU cooler recommendations, please post them. Oh, and I'm bouncing between a RAID 0 build with two 500GB drives or one 1TB drive. What do you kids think about that? The budget is around $1,500 to $1,750. Have fun.

I expect pushing and yelling about how one thing is better than another a shit ton of controversy over the 5850. Have fun.

Edit: Oh, I'll get some kind of thermal compound too. Added. Also, what is everybody's favorite cases for a build like this?

Edit 2: Oh, and does anybody know of what the best sub $200 socket 1366 motherboard is?
I was seriously impressed with my thermaltake. Talk about good airflow. Not good if you like things quiet though.
always arctic silver
unless you want diamond compound
my build was 1500 dollars a few months ago
i like coolermaster, but the thermaltake my bro has is decent
the 932 is a big mutherfucker
samsung monitors are the best
i bought an arctic cooler cpu fan, but it's for AMD (my model)

5850=beast
i have a 4890 that's doing very well however

everything else is opinion, i prefer AMD and Western Digital for HDD

You should have seen the other case I was lookin' at. The Coolermaster ATCS 840.

I think it is the most beautiful case I've ever seen, but it's really big, really heavy, and costs thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis much money ): You know, if you know of any good cases that look like that, I want to see it. I'm not the biggest fan of LED's on everything, unless we're talking mounting a lite brite to the side of the case. I still want an opinion on RAID for this.
I recommend OCZ for a PSU. Amazing at how quiet and efficient it is. Definitely look out for any holiday deals they have.

just make sure you remember that Full tower is fucking huge, and almost not practical for the backseat of a car

Oh Hell, I guess I'm going to have to move my desk out of the car and into the basement then so I can play. Fine though, are there any mid-towers you would recommend?

Edit: Added a Corsair PSU for now. You think 700 watts is too much? I'm not going to dabble in Crossfire territory.

Yeah, I got my 600 W 13v rail PSU from them. It's really quiet, efficient, and has never overheated. Also, I got it for 45 bucks.
For Hard Drives

1 60 - 120 Gig for OS
3 500g HDDs for a Raid 5
Raid 5 is a waste, for the CPU overhead and the lack of any read performance you gain in a three drive instance, you might as well go raid 1+0.

And more expensive. Maybe I ought to just get a single 1TB drive and call it a day.
according to my friend who is possibly the biggest computer nerd ever, corsair PSUs are seasonic. or something. but yeah, he recommends them.
get the samsung, I have a 24" one and it's nice
How much does the response time matter? The Samsung is 5ms while the ASUS is 2ms.
I have the 23" of that Asus, it's fucking nice.  Definitely go with the 2ms response time ones.  However they just released a brand new line that is LED backlit that looks interesting and is the same price pretty much.
