Because I am at work, and both unable/unwilling to do a mass amount of screenshots to explain everything, I am going to do my best to explain how to do everything from install the game to getting into the cockpit of an Atlas.
Config Creator - Does not have video memory fixer
Installation Guide:
Grab the torrent here, there's lots of seeds so it should take you 1 - 1.5 hours approximately
Currently there is one patch hotfix, which you should grab here
Once you have both of these downloaded, navigate to your Crysis folder, for most of you this is Steam\SteamApps\Common\Crysis\, create a folder called 'Mod' and extract all of the files here. After extracting, extract the patch into the same folder, it should prompt you to overwrite some files.
Before you launch, go back to the main crysis folder and create a file called autoexec.cfg, follow these step shown here, this will allow the Crytek engine to utilize more video memory, so if you have a 512 or 1024 meg card things will run _MUCH_ more smoothly.
Theres more lines you can add for a sound fix but I have to look those up later.
Now to launch and configure the game, you can do one of two things, either in steam, you can go to advanced options and add '-mod mwll' to the launch parameters, or there's a launcher directly in the mod's folder.
Alright, now that Ive launched the game what do I do?
- If your cursor is stuck in part of the screen and you cant move it press ALT + Enter, this is a bug where the game things its in windowed mode but isn't
- Go to create profile and make one, this will be your in-game nick, if you don't make a profile your name will be Nomad and we'll all make fun of you
- Go to your video settings and set everything to LOW, this is highly recommended as a starting point, you can scale things up from there later on if you are stable
Ok, Im set up now, how do I play online?
- Crysis uses gamespy for servers, you have to sign in using a gamespyID, if you created an ID for borderlands or crysis previously, it should work just fine with this game.
- If you have not created a gamespy ID, please make one through the game itself
- If you are getting errors try the following, first, try launching normal Crysis and making an ID there, then restarting MWLL, I had to make about 4 attempts in MWLL before it finally accepted my ID
Alright I see the server List now what?
- Pick one with low ping and people in it and get to fighting
Now I'm in game, what the fuck am I supposed to do now?
When you first enter the game, you spawn in power armor with the following armaments, a small laser and a 2 shot rocket launcher. You can cycle through weapons with MouseWheel up/down, if you see no gun in front of yourself, you have the missiles selected. You spawn in command building, start by moving to the next room and then down some stairs, you are now in the mech bay. Press space bar to use your jets and get down onto the floor of the bay.
Now its time to get equipped, on the middle right side of the screen is a number with a © next to it, this is how many credits you have based on the number of kills/assists you have performed, so don't worry, as long as you are doing damage or helping do damage, this number will go up, there is no penalty for death and you are allocated. It will do down if you have acts of friendly fire.
Ok, now what do I do to get ready for battle?
- First thing you want to do is press J to drop the small laser, its useless. You can not drop the missiles.
- Press ',' to open the buy menu, it has five tabs, Weapons, Ammo, Mechs, Vehicles, VTOLs (VTOLs are disabled on some maps)
- Click on Weapons, these are weapons for elementals, there are five and you can carry two of them, for now don't worry about grenades
- There are five weapons for elementals
- Man Pack PPC - Good against mechs, has a long cooldown and refill time
- Bear Autocannon - Good against other elementals
- AC2 - Good against vehicles
- Small laser - you just dropped this, why buy another?
- TAG Laser - this is a laser designator, and by far the most useful thing an elemental can carry
If you want to play support I recommend you grab a TAG laser and a Bear and move out, otherwise a manpack PPC and a Bear or an AC2. As the elemental its important to remember two things, one is that your health regenerates and two is that you have infinite ammo. You do very little damage and are like a stinging bee to most vehicles and mechs, however, from a hard to hit position the TAG laser enables team mates to rain down missile barrages far exceeding their normal operational range.
While tagging something any missile damage done by others counts toward your credits, so go nuts, its an easy way to earn additional credits.
The Elemental is nice and all, but I want to drive one of the big robots
Well since they are both similar, I am going to combine ground vehicles and mechs into one thing. In the buy tab when mouse over a vehicle or mech it will show what they are armed with, as well as how much any particular vehicle costs. Unlike damage done to elemental, vehicles and mechs need to retreat to a repair bay to get repaired and you can run out of ammo.
When you click on a vehicle to buy it, it will be constructed in one of the available bays at the base, when your vehicle spawns it will have a big blue box around it indicating that its yours. Don't worry, no one can gank your vehicle until you get in it. Move toward the vehicle and press 'F' to get in, when you are in a vehicle or mech the HUD is radically different than an elemental.
In the upper right corner is your weapons selection, down on the bottom are two circular radar screens showing the proxy radar and map radar, and on the right is your armor and internals status. Both mechs and vehicles control as follows:
W - Throttle Up/forward
S - Throttle down/reverse
A - Turn Left
D - Turn Right
X - All stop
Mouse Look - Swivel torso or turret
This can be quite disorienting at first, especially mechs, but you will get the hang of it, the hardest part is that turning the torso all the way will not turn the mech if you hit the twist limit (usually 90 degrees from center, but more or less for some mechs).
Also when moving, you DO NOT HOLD DOWN W or S, this will move your throttle all the way up or down, once you are at a level you desire, stop pressing these keys. Some mechs can take a long time to speed up/slow down so be wary of this when deciding to attack/retreat.
Each mech and vehicle has different variants that carry different weapons that do different things, they are also classed in the following order - Light, Medium, Heavy, Assault. For now since its not in the game don't worry about customization, but here is what various weapons are and do
(S)SRM (Streak)Short Range Missiles - Come in flavors of 2, 4, and 6, Streak missiles can lock on, otherwise are dummy fire, short range as the name suggests
Inferno SRM (2,4) - Same as SRM but has napalm in it that lites mechs on fire
LRM (5,10,15,20) - Long range missiles, you can lock these on individually to a mech at long range, but works best in conjunction with a buddy tagging targets over hills
Arrow IV - Its a large cruise missile, you MUST have a buddy tagging to even fire it
®AC (2,5,10,15,20) - (Rapid-fire) Autocannon, the number indicates the bore size in inches, large is obviously better, these are medium to short range, any AC with an R prefix is rapid-chaingun style firing, and will take a second to spin up before firing
LBX-AC (2,5,10,15,20) - Same as the regular autocannon, except its a giant shotgun, close range
Gauss - Large magnetically propelled projectile, does a ton of damage, long range
Machine Gun - does next to zero damage against mechs, but good for spamming against vehicles or elementals
(ER)Laser (Small/Medium/Large) - (Extended-Range) Laser, comes in three sizes, each size larger deals more damage and generates more heat
Pulse Laser (Small/Medium/Large) - Unlike the regular laser that does its damage all at once, the pulse lasers do lower damage, but over time, so you have to keep your crosshairs over the target to continue to do damage
Flamer - Flamethrower, good at point blank for overheating a mech and against vehicles and elementals
PPC - Particle Projectile cannon, its man-made lightning, the strongest of energy weapons, but it also has the longest recharge time and generates the most heat.
That should cover all of the weapons, I can add more in later if I forgot any.
Heat Management And You - Or Why does my mech keep shutting down when I fire all the pew pew lasers?
You are driving a fusion reactor with legs, it gets hot, on your left radar in your HUD there are two gauges, one should be empty initially and the other is a light blue, these are your coolant and heat levels. When you fire a weapon it generates heat, this moves the heat gauge up, if it gets too high, one of two things is going to happen.
- Your mech shuts down, you can hit P to power back up, but an emergency shutdown while slugging it out with someone usually ends in your death
- Your fusion reactor explodes, killing you and anyone else in the immediate vicinity
To prevent this you press 'C' to flush coolant into your reactor, this will drain the coolant gauge, and you will need to refill it once you run out.
How to get a head in Navigating
The right radar in the hud of mechs and vehicles shows the larger map and where your are on it, the map is laid out in a grid pattern, so knowing where you are and where the enemy will be coming from is key. As an elemental you do not have this on your HUD and must press 'M' to view the map. At any time you can press M in any mech or vehicle to view your map.
Weapon Grouping - How I shot Alpha Strike
In the upper right of your HUD are all of your weapons for what you are in, they are numbered 1,2,3,4,5,6 - but some of them have the same number...whats going on here?
In mechwarrior weapons are assigned group numbers, and you can fire them individually or as a group. You can change the grouping to whatever you like using the arrow keys and enter. For example, you'll see two slightly different color bars behind the text, one vertical and one horizontal, this selects a weapon and a number, pressing Enter will assign that weapon to that number. A weapon can have multiple numbers assigned to it.
Now, for Crysis the weapon binding is key and where you leave the vertical marker also matters. If you move nothing, Mouse 1 fires group 1, Mouse 2 = group 2, mouse 3 = group 3 (I do not think it supports any further mouse buttons). Which ever group you leave that vertical marker on is Mouse 1, the next to the right is mouse 2 and so on. So if you leave the vertical marker on Group 3, it is mouse 1, mouse 2 is group 4, and mouse 3 is group 6.
For all intents and purposes you should only need 3 groups, the easiest way I do this is to assign my primary weapons to 1, these have large charge times or high heat generation. Secondary weapons go to group 2, I can cycle them continually without much heat, and lastly missiles go to group 3.
For reference purposes, "Alpha Strike" means to fire all weapons at once, and usually this ends with a shutdown or a massive coolant flush.
I'm Out of ammo, HALP _or_ Oh my god my ARM, heal pls
If you ever run out of ammo and need to reload you need to head back to base, go into the mech bay and press the "." key to buy ammo, it will be automatically purchased and loaded into the mech, that's it, you don't need to do anything else.
If you get damaged, you need to run into one of the bays where your mech first spawned and press "P" to power down, your money will start to tick down, then stop, when it stops power back on and all of your armor will have been repaired, any destroyed weapons will have been replaced, and your coolant will be full again.
However, please note, on Heavy and Assault mechs, it will NOT repair a lost limb or critically damaged engine, you'll have to buy a new mech

Oh Shit I found an enemy Mech What do I do?[/u]
Im not going to go into tactics on how to use specific weapons or how to fight various classes of mech, but you want to aim for the cockpit, center torso, or one of my favorites, the legs. If you blow an arm off they lose all weapon(s) on that arm, core a torso and they could lose those weapons as well, and you can start scoring hits on the engine or other components.
Blow off a leg and they can not run away, a leg can also be "black" and it wont fall off unlike other games, where if you blew off a leg the mech would fall to the ground, they just move really really slow, like easy pickings slow.
