My mic sounds really really scratchy when I use it in TF2, I can barely understand my own voice, but when I'll record outside, it's crystal clear. Does anyone have a quick fix?
I told you to buy a desktop mic  Wink

Try changing sound drivers if possible
Where should I look? I'm not sure what sound card I have or where good driver sites are.

Start with the make and model of your PC and/or motherboard, do a google search for sound drivers for that
How does your mic sound in Steam chat? It should sound the same as in TF2.

What kind of mic do you have?

(your mics generally going to sound worse in the Steam client then somewhere like Skype simply because the system they use to transmit voice. If it's not totally unrecognizable then it's probably normal and you shouldn't worry about it).
Turn off mic boost.

Turn it off in TF2 and turn it off in windows.

Are you using a USB mic? If so, ditch that as well and go with a simple analog model.
