Be Right Back, Uninstalling

so after looking at the preview for Hydorah I remembered a game I used to love playing over and over...
let me know if you can remember it and know the name... here's what i remember:

pretty sure it was dos
you were a spaceship flying up through the levels to reach the final goal - a larger spaceship that picked you up - you would auto center and fly into it.
at the end of some (all/most... not sure) levels there was a meteor shower that you had to fly through or blow up with upgraded weps. then sometimes boss
Upgrades:
-bigger ship
-diagonal shooting
-Front shield big bulky looking thing - i think with a red gem in the center
-2 on each side extra guns - looked kinda like shields and would not go past the edge of the screen instead it folded in
little helper in the back that followed you around and shot
Wep Upgrades that i remember:
-double shot
-crazy rings
-HUGE blue ring that would start small but expand to the edges of the screen so long as there were no walls
-big red lasers

that sounds like a LOT of old arcade games with the upgrades part. was basically it's own genre :S

I can think of plenty of arcade and console games but tbh nothing from PC-DOS

I played this game a thousand times, no joke. I don't know if it is the same game though.

Sounds sort of like Silpheed, but I'm not sure if that's older than you're thinking...

God Major Striker owned just for the "Game Over Man!" sound byte. Game crashing whenever you fired a bomb off while your weapons were firing was really annoying though :\
