Ten pictures walk in, only one walks out.

To be bluntly honest, I think the only picture that does not deserve to be there due to story and character unoriginality is Avatar, yes, the special effects Oscar is a shoe-in, but for best writing? I'd take District 9 as a better Sci-Fi movie any day.

Of that list though Id have to go with either District 9, Inglorious Bastards, or Up, I have not seen Up in the Air or Precious but I have heard very good things about them.

Debate away
Inglourious Basterds.
Hurt Locker, Possibly one of my favourite war movies ever
Definitively Up. Had no idea what kind of experience that movie had in store before I started watching it. I mean, it actually made me tear up several times.
Fuck, tough choice.
ill be honest

i didnt watch any of those movies
Wait, A Serious Man or A Single Man?
I have not seen a single one of these movies.  Sad

raped
Can't choose between District 9 or The Hurt Locker
I cried during Up, twice.
The other movies were nice, but no emotional attachment y'know.
I'm gonna go with Up in the Air or The Hurt Locker. I'm giving Up in the Air a slight edge since it's more easy to relate to for most of society. Both of them were good though. I didn't see Up, or Blind Side or Precious. I wouldn't mind if District 9 or Inglorious Basterds won though. Really I just don't want Avatar to win. It's gotten too much awards already and outside of looking pretty, it sounds pretty bland to me.
Up most def deserves it in my opinion, but I don't see the academy budging, they're kind of set in their ways :\
UP for me, even though it's real close between Up in the Air and District 9.

I thought that last year until Slumdog won
I like District 9. I think it was a really different movie, and that it's themes were far more interesting than others. I mean with Avatar, we've all heard that story before; District 9 tells a similar if not exact story but does so in a far more compelling way. I think it strongly touches on some of the more serious issues that Avatar might be hinting at.

I think it takes more risks and relies on less wow factor.
8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) district 9 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
from what i heard d9 was half life 2 but switching combine and humans

Hurt Locker is gonna win. But personally, I think Up was fantastic.

Did you hear about the short he based it on? He took interviews of people making racist remarks about other cultural groups and edited them to make them be about aliens. Dude is brilliant and I love how he can tackle complex social issues in very non-confrontational ways.
