So AVP in 2000 was one of my favorite games and a top LAN game. They have apparently updated it through windows 7 and added beta multiplayer support. I don't know about the new game, but who is interested in having some wicked classic multiplayer games in the meantime?

It is only $5 on steam BTW.

Video has it looking really dated. Anyways who is excited about the reboot? I think I'm going to download the demo to take it for a spin. I've read everything from terrible console port to better than AVP2.
totally picking this up when i get home, no idea it was $5, count me in for whatever
I'm short on money right now o.o Who wants to buy it for me? Big Grin

I can provide a list of people who I've bought stuff on steam for in the past if that helps =p

Also, the new demo is fun as hell.. wish the lobbies weren't open mics. Aliens > Everything.

aliens are always op, kinda sucks :/
I was playing the demo. If a demo is supposed to get people who were on the fence excited about the game, then this pile of garbage fails in every single way possible. It's also just all out deathmatch. Wrong mode to showcase the game. Everything about the game feels clumsy and slow.

Edit: And it looks like complete ass too. I don't even think fancy DX11 tessellation can do much for it. We'll see.

yeah open mics suck. damn mouthbreathers.
New demo lacks depth and polish, as it stands I don't feel it's worth $50.
Demo is supposed to be an early build, like the exact same thing they had at last E3.
I liked the demo o.o I have bad taste I guess.
If the demo is an example of what the main game is like, this game sucks lol Aliens running around walls is clunky and confusing and Marines die if they don't have a friend.  The whole thing just seems poorly done.  Like a game that came out 10 years ago with a new coat of paint.

I'd take AVP 1 or 2 with a new coat of paint  :-\
the demo is also the same demo from E3 last year. I'd say try the game via that way and if you like it buy it.

Meh, they die if they got a friend, or friends.. just gotta ambush em... very entertaining... Perhaps too much, I'll see a therapist later. If yah wana complain about problems in the game it seems like any (and all) of the Predator's gear is way over-powered. (Still, some of the kill animations are worth running though just to see the look of terror in the opponent's face... Yeah I need to go see a doc....)

I find it amusing though that this runs better at full settings on my PC than Fallout 3 does...

Who would have guessed a game taking place in small, dark corridors with low res textures that looks like somebody wiped their ass over all the walls would run better than a massive open world RPG?
I liked the demo, can run at highest with my shitty rig but I tend to run at lowest texture settings for now because of the lack of dedicated servers in the demo.  Sometimes it run nice and smooth, sometimes its laggy as hell.  Oh well, looking forward to NOT using the matchmaking in the full game.

Thoughts on demo, well DM was a really shitty choice to showcase the three race balance.  Heavy attack is currently OP as anything if you don't have time to quick attack and interrupt them.  Lots of ragequitters too.  Do like how most people are willing to turn the game to TDM and not kill their species, adds a lot to the experience imo.  Demo definately needs a tutorial or something, as its confusing as hell the first time you play.  Melee system seems basic but is actually pretty deep and tough to master, especially the timing for counter attacks.  Alien is really disorienting until you figure out how to navigate the levels upside down.  A lot more maneuvarable then most people think, it just takes getting used to wall jumping and running crazy fast upside down to be good at alien.  Species seem fairly well balanced and with a few tweaks the game would be a lot better.

I'll probably drop the money on the preorder.

My guess is he had to host?
Surf, atm everyone is hosting, theres only a few official servers.  This is why it seems people get disconnected from lobbies so much, host shutting down server.
I know Joel has been playing this, how's the game so far? Is it a buy?

I've just beaten the game (all 3 stories), and I will post my (hopefully) short review of the game.

Starting with the marine, I didn't like the lack of character development and the team play. I know its very common, almost necessary if you will, to be running around alone in these types of games. I was still hoping for a few group shoot outs, but alas, any friends you come to meet either die, or you leave them shortly thereafter. For the most of the game, you are taking orders from Tequila, a female marine. You don't really get to know her very well, but by the end you're risking your life to save hers, which leads me to believe there is some form of relation other than co-workers. On a side note, you get to use flares again. One flare at a time, and you have infinite.

The alien story suffers from lack of plot the most. I suppose because the aliens only real objective is to protect the queen and kill anyone else. So that's all the alien story is. Just running around killing people to no end. Speaking of end, I have to say that the Alien ending is the most sudden and unsatisfying one of the three. You're going along at an even pace and then, bam, its over, a short non-descript cutscene shows what happens to your character '6' after, and then drops off.

Predator has decent storyline to it. Your character has a purpose going in and comes to fufil it at the end. There really isn't much to say about it. You only start off with your blades, and have to get your other weapons as you go.

As far as story goes, I'd say the marine storyline is the main focus (as I originally thought). I would suggest playing it first, then enjoy it from different perspectives afterwords (other 2 campaigns). All in all, after playing the marine story line I have to say I'm pleased with the game. The story didn't go as far as I was hoping, and it may be the multilayer that keeps the game active for me, as opposed to playing the stories over and over. You get points for each story and it adds up the three scores at the end for you, with other misc stats. Not sure if there is a point to this, I didn't really care.

The online. I haven't played it yet, but I did browse the menu to see what was available. From what I can tell, there is no longer ANY open mics. this made me happy.  I can also see the ability to create your own server, and browse a list of servers, as well as the quick match setting like from the demo. There are 7 game modes to play online, and 6 maps I believe. You have the ability to password your server, as well as use 'private' slots, which I think is for members of your friends list only. The max players per game is 12. I don't know about any gameplay changes, but the options look promising.

If you're a  fan of one, or both, of the franchise, I think you'd enjoy the game. If you liked the earlier games I think you'll enjoy it. If it was someone going in with no knowledge of either, then I doubt they'd like it as much. I say its a buy, but that's only my personal opinion.
