I saw Didzo's thread, and figured that since I have my own computer that will be built later today (OH GOD CAN'T WAIT CAN'T WAIT) I would post my own for ego-stroking purposes.  :-*

Guts:

Case - COOLER MASTER Centurion 534

RAM (4GB when I get the money) - Corsair 2GB DDR3 1333

HDD - WD Caviar 500GB

Power Supply - COOLER MASTER eXtreme 500w

Vidya Card - Radeon HD 4850

Motherboard - GIGABYTE GA-MA770T-UD3P AM3 AMD 770 ATX

Processor - AMD Athlon II x3 425 2.7GHz

No more playing TF2 on minimum settings for me. Instead, it will be at a capped 60FPS with everything completely maxed. This also sets me up for games in the future, as well as being able to play Crysis on Very High just because I can.  Big Grin

All for $575 shipped. (Didzo's was about $1,320 shipped!) Thanks to Blues for helping me not be a dumbshit when putting it together and for getting me a computer that will perform at 75% of the speed of Didzo's at 2/5 the cost.
Pretty good, I think I would have gotten a 2nd or 3rd HDD though  Tongue
4850's a good card, bought two of them for ~$370 in summer '08. Tongue

Maybe for someone like Blues who downloads shitloads of crap he doesn't need or you who probably downloads porn all day Smile

For those of us who actually play games and don't download 10 1080p HD movies a day, 500GB is more than plenty.
<3 my 4850, except for the fact it sounds like a plane taking off. But I use a headset anyways and it looks pretty. Also, the latest drivers have improved immensely.

If I manage to scrounge up about 200 more dollars I'm gonna get

along with a new case and some ram

My epeen is still larger than yours is.

Glorious overkill is glorious. Also, future-proofing and easy overclocking potential is great.

there's something to be said for being able to build rigs twice (well 2.5x) as frequently though

3k is walking around money for versus
C:\ = 2x WD 750GB(698GB), RAID-0, 402GB free

D:\ = WD 1TB (931GB), 88GB free

E:\ = WD 1TB (931GB), 102GB free

F:\ = WD 320GB (298GB), 1GB free

Total,  3070GB (2858GB), 191 GB free

Gonna run out of space in about ~50 days, I use 15-20GB every 3 to 4 days, at which point, I'm getting this..

Yes, I have a WD fetish. Over the past decade or so and 11 WD drives I've used in my shit, I've never had *one* hiccup with any of them. I have however, replaced 4 Seagates and my laptops Samsung (With WD) that can't do anything right but spew CRC checksum errors after 4 years of 24/7 on.

You have no idea the monster that lurks in the laundry room. Some call it the NAS. I call it... god.
I'd use NAS if more than one of my PC's needed all my media, right now I just watch it here or stream off it.

I've had the opposite(ish). Personally, out of the fifteen Seagates that I have owned, only two have died (one after four years, one in the first three months, both replaced under warranty) while three of my five WDs have passed on inside of four years. Then again all four of the Maxtors in my collection have died horrible deaths.
My brother has had one of his WD 160gb drives die every year for the past five years. He uses a pair on a RAID-1 mirror.

Professionally, I only loose about 10-12 Seagates a year, but I manage arrays with over 7,000 drives. I have lost 2/3rds of my Hitachi drives in less then one year. They are used in a blade-desktop solution and have been replaced with Seagates by the blade manufacturer.

Never buy Hitachi. Ever.

isn't that why they're generally referred to as Hitachi Deathstars?
