I've been playing Metro 2033 and gotta say it's pretty good.  The whole setting, idea, and atmosphere are definitely familiar to STALKER in a good way, but the more linear nature of the game gives it much more focus on character interaction and story elements.  What I'm glad is that there is still some minor exploration to the game.  When you can, you explore the area you've cleared or as your moving through, looking for ammo, guns, filters, and money bullets.  It's nice to take the time looking around an area that seems like you'll find something and then you actually do.  STALKER has so much area, that sometimes you find nothing after tons of exploring lol

There are even special things to find like in one area I found a tape that had a message from someone, the second play giving me music.  In another location, I accidentally found a guard hiding in a maze of boxes, getting high off a hooka.  Getting an upgraded version of my auto-shotty with a bayonet attached to the end, I was able to then take a hit off the hooka which made things all weird and messed up my controls for abit lol

On the PC version I have, there are a few bugs or issues, but nothing major so far.  At one point, my revolver would reload and then automatically shoot a bullet.  It went away.  AI, while not moronic, they really don't push up on you.  They'll sit in their spot, gun ready, scooting back and forth, sometimes looking in odd directions.  They are still tough to fight cause they are accurate, but it's something that STALKER does better cause at least the AI is aggressive in that game.

And the monsters are scary as fuck.  They aren't push overs and there are times where your literally getting swarmed, forced to unload the ammo you have in your guns, just barely able to hold them off, finally relenting to slash at them with your knife.

I doubt this game will have tons of replay value since there aren't multiple paths and will just lend to you wanting to try some different weapons or see if you can do it on a harder difficulty.  I think normal is tough enough right now lol
HOW'S THE MAD DX11?!
I wouldn't know since that's a Vista thing isn't it? lol The game itself looks pretty good right now.
What do you think? It's basically like CoP's DX11 from screens I've seen.  AKA it doesn't even need to exist because the game looks literally no different with or without it sans a few polygons here and there looking somewhat different. DX10 vs DX9 in the game from screens I've seen look pretty identical too.

I think the best vision of DX11 is Dirt 2. Like, that shit is nuts.

I can attest to this.

Ha.
Just beat the game.  I'm pretty satisfied with it.  I think it's a good start for a series, if they want to continue it in Metro 2034 lol It's a pretty ripe setting for it.  It's like Fallout.  Sure you seem to be in just the one for the most part, but you only played around in a small part of Moscow.  There's so much more that could be done, unless it is just a one time thing due to being made because of the book

My only beef is that nothing is talked about or explained really.  Normally it's not necessary to try and come up with an explanation for things, but as far as I can tell, nukes drop, shit mutated...That's about it.  I mean that is fine for the most part, but I like details x3 I'd like to know more about The Dark Ones and what they really are, cause simple mutation seems a tad out there.  Were they experiments like in STALKER? Were they experiments blasted by radiation from the bombs?  Are they aliens? THE ALIEN MESSIAHS?! TELL ME!

The last chapter of the game is pretty intense I thought.  Real good way to wrap up the game, though I swear to god, I've never had such an infuriating time than in D6.

NOTE TO THOSE PLAYING METRO 2033.  If your fighting against blobs that explode, you can destroy their hatching pods.  I died like 12 times in a row trying to fight my way through them with a soldier and I can't believe I did it.  Your surrounded by them.  It wasn't till the second push in another area that I realized those pods can be destroyed, keeping you from getting swarmed like fucking crazy.  I felt stupid for not realizing it sooner and it does eat up ammo to do it, but it is a necessary thing.

Good game, solid, though tad vague story, nice implementation of loot and ammo gathering off dead bodies and rewarding people that explore the maps.

I'm actually gonna buy that soon lol Oooo...And it looks like they are gonna turn it into a movie.  That might be fun if they don't fuck it up. And there is a book sequel, so since the book has done well, the game is getting reasonable reviews, I could see a small chance of a sequel down the road hopefully.
I've had a few people ask about how linear the game is, I think it can be summed up with "pretty linear" but the setting really justifies it, you're underground...... in a metro......... IT'S A LINE.

That is all.

-EDIT-

Pretty, too.

I just realized before launching it to play that I've had video settings locked on 12x AA and Full Quality 16x AF w/o knowing, and the game still rocked on at like 55FPS in DX10 mode, so if you're thinking you need some uber beefy PC, this was done on a 4890

As disappointed as I am with the $ / length of game ratio as I am?

=|

If anyone is cool enough like me to have played Blue Shift, it's about that long.

I was just making sure that people weren't as dumb as me when they got to that spot and save them a headache lol
For those that enjoyed the game, DLC details are being announced this week.

[me=Kirby]has a gigantic raging boner for this[/me]
Sadly it's just "Hardcore" mode for Metro 2033 and two new weapons.  Not a bad thing, just...not new content lol For the true survivalist I guess.

If it's cheap, I might grab it to do another playthrough of the game.  Never did see what the other endings might be.
Some good news! Metro 2034 is officially in the works.  It's also gonna have 3D tech which is no big deal really.  I guess they tested out the 3D on Metro 2033, no clue if it was any good.  3D is not something I'm really looking forward to with in gaming.

Wasn't the first already 3D certified with Nvidia's glasses?
