Well, had to re-install.. This blows...

Electrician showed up today to try and fix the grounding problem. He requested I shutdown and unplug my computer. Seeing no harm in this I did so. However, when I got home (with a Copy of Left 4 Dead 2...) my PC sat at the "Starting Windows Vista" screen. I've tried running the memory check, all appeared to be fine. I can't get it to boot to safe mode or any of that. Only options I can get to are BIOS and Selecting from which device to boot from.

I'm running an Acer Aspire (Desktop) with windows Vista 32 bit

I can't think of much else and I'm working on the only remaining PC in the house (It barely runs Warcraft 3...) and sharing it between three people, it's late and I plan to leave my PC 'trying' to boot over night.

Any help you could give would be appreciated. I'll update tomorrow morning when I get the chance.

there's not going to be that much in the way of diagnostics or repairs that we can do via the interwebs if it doesnt get past that loading screen.

what kind of resources do you have ? legit copy of windows ? pirated version ? im thinking of a repair installation with the brief description you gave.
have you tried taking the graphics card out and see if it boots up on the integrated card?
Legit copy of Vista, from what I've found out so far is:
It's apparently Vista SP1 related (Boot hanging on crcdisk.sys)
A System Restore will fix it (But I can't find the bloody button to use System Restore from pre-boot)
- or -
Deleting / renaming four files ending in .sys (Which I'm EXTREMELY hesitant to do)

I've got restore disks but I'd rather use that as a last resort since I'd lose about 10 gigs in files and spend a month Re-Downloading all my shit from steam.

What I don't understand is I installed Vista SP1 I think a few months ago and haven't encountered this problem yet. (Then again, most of us know my computer hates me)

Well, tried to boot up system restore and it told me no points were available, I think I'm going to have to do a clean install...

Things have gone from bad to worse, I'm going to have to do a clean reinstall... PC should be working again in two days... (MSN, Skype, and Steam should be re-installed before the end of the day. Provided nothing goes wrong, TF2 by Tuesday)
