Was playing TF2

Sound freezes, monitor video locks, and my case fans all go to 100% for some reason. Usually I'll just power off and restart, but this time it wouldn't POST. It would power on until I would normally hear the POST beep, then it powers off - a common sign of PSU failure. So I flipped the power switch on the PSU a couple of times, then was able to boot.

tl;dr Gump's PSU is dying and he is shitting bricks.
PSUs are pretty cheap though.  At least by computer part standards.
Stop using your PSU before you fry you motherboard, get a new one off new egg they aren't horribly expensive

because I couldn't just RMA it.
i agree, stop using that PSU before you cause bad damage to your components man! I might have an extra 486 lying around if you want a good working PC...?  Wink

So what was the issue?

It was more like a sedate, semi-lengthy chuckle

Also: Get a pair of PSUs and slave them together, get the power draw information of everything major in your case(GPU(s), CPU, HDD, Optical drives, etc.) and get a rough estimation of everythings maximum draw capability, then split the load equally between the two PSUs, making sure to drive the video card and mobo off different PSUs

omg redundancy(If you get a pair that are cabable of powering your system independently) & reliability, because neither PSU will be stressed as hard as a single one would be when asked to say.. ramp up from idle desktop to loading a game and starting play, you get less wear and tear as well.

A friend of mine with the same exact PSU and a similar rig of mine runs it flawlessly. I think it's just the PSU. As per your recommendation, I don't have the means to get another PSU right now. Even if the power draw is lowered, a dead PSU is still a dead PSU. Christ.

An isolated case where it didn't boot once after crashing. I'm not sure if it's worth RMAing yet.

Hopefully you won't destroy your computer.

But if you decide to RMA, please keep this quote tree in mind.

But if your computer explodes or ends up burning down your room and everything you hold dear, don't try the "but it was cheaper than yours" thing again.

Yours with Rage,
