get a credit card
only buy things you can afford to spend money on
thank me when you have a good credit for when you buy a house

Vandamguy

ya get a credit card early on , it helps build credit like zane says.
if you're too young fo that then you must have some parents with credits cards. they can buy stuff.

One thing that scared me is that he said he can't buy computer parts online, and no one mentions Newegg.
(05-07-2010, 04:19 PM)jeff link Wrote: [ -> ]why cant you buy on the internet

and build it yourself, dummy.  its time to be a little bit less of a retard.  if neonie (<3) can do it you can.  and the most youll need is a fucking screwdriver.

Well, I don't have a bank account, I keep my money in various hiding places, and all my change(431.34 cents) and I don't have a credit cards, I mean what the hell am I going to do? Buy a thousand dollars worth of Visa gift cards?
[/quote]

Well unless you want to overpay by something like a factor of 2, you should probably look into getting a bank account.

No my mother doesn't have a credit card.

And it's not that I'm too young, it's one of those things that never comes, like me taking my driver's test, or me getting my room painted. I've talked about it, but nothing ever happens.

....really? I'll pay 1000 dollars for something that costs 500? The credit card could take another year to actually happen, how would I go about finding a store that has these parts? What stores would hold these?
...does your mom have a bank account?

I don't know. She actually doesn't like the whole building-the-computer plan that I had early on, so even then I doubt she'd let me use her account.
Well, look at it this way. There is no store that won't overcharge you for computer parts. It's almost 50% cheaper for nearly every part to buy off the internet.

An internet $1200 would cost you up to $2600 in a store.

Fuck.

Are you sure it really isn't just a complicated process? No red-pill-blue-pill,theodore-logan doing kung-fu,matrix shit? No spot-welding, soldering, cement-floaties business? Really just a screw driver?

To reiterate:

It's like building expensive LEGOs.

The only tools needed are your hands and a screwdriver, though some basic intuition and a rudimentary ability to read diagrams do come in handy.

If you lack the latter to, don't worry: you're friendly, bored, e-peen stroking buddies here in the Computer section will be more than willing to walk you through any issue or question that comes up.

If you're really that nervous about it, you could always pay someone to do it for you and still save a bunch of money by buying online. Just make sure they're reliable and they aren't overcharging.

but it really isn't that hard. Physically breaking a video card is much harder than frying it on accident. Just make sure to take precautions and you won't have a problem.

How to install a graphics card

basically like this but making sure everything is grounded and that you've discharged your body of electricity. You can do that by touching the metal sides of a case or wearing rubber gloves. It literally is nothing more than pushing a lego into place.
where do you live?

I know someone who will do it for free.

It's not all as fragile and complicated as it looks.

Trust me, you really do figure out how stuff works and how it all fits together once you get over the initial "ZOMG SO MANY BOXES AND STUFF" phase.

Edit: Don't have someone else build it for you... How else will you get over your techtardation?
Is there any standard caution? besides the fact I can break something just by touching it, and sitting on a shag carpet?

Make sure the comp is unplugged while you put in or take out parts.

Wear a pair of rubber gloves just as a precaution.

rubber gloves?
buy an anti-static bracelet lol
