Okay so I know that if I had a cd player, I could buy a splitter and get 2 inputs so I could plug in 2 head phones and there would be no problem.
Except my problem is the opposite, I have a computer and a console that both have a 3.5mm end, and my sub woofer (which supplies power and data to my speakers) only has one 3.5mm opening. Everytime I want to play one or the other I have to go below my desk and switch the cables in and out. Would the head phone splitter work the same or fuck shit up?
yes
you should see how rigged my xbox setup is
Show it to me so I can see how rigged your xbox system is.
well i suppose cleaning up my desk is long overdue i'll see if i can find my "blueprints"

i can't find it and there's not enough light in here to take a picture of the cords
i'll just say it

xbox display goes out to a dvi port to a computer monitor
this also has a red/yellow audio out for "game sound"
i have an adapter that turns those into one 3.5 mm jack
that jack plugs into one branch of a splitter
the other branch of the splitter is plugged into the headphone part of an adapter that splits the xbox controller 2.5 mm "comm sound" into two 3.5 mm jacks (one for sound one for mic)
the mic on that adapter is plugged into a computer mic
then it all comes together back at the bottom of the splitter with a coupler that plugs into a headphone jack on a computer headset

basically this lets me play xbox on a monitor (much better than my tube tv)
and listen to game sounds, voice chat, and talk through a computer headset (or speaker/desktop mic) - (much better than the shitty live communicator thing)
this allows me to play at night and hear things i wouldn't normally hear through shitty tv speakers
also, never any echo mic like the majority of live douchbags

i'll post a picture when i get the chance cause i don't even understand what i just said
it'll probably work but you risk blowing out all three devices if either of the output devices have poor isolation.

Isolation?

Isolation?
[/quote]Has to do with how the electronics function, if either of your output devices is super cheap (and they skipped out on putting in an isolation transformer), you risk blowing everything out.
it'll be fine
Or you could just plug your console audio into the 'line in' port on your PC, then unmute that port in Windows....

But wouldn't that involve turning my computer on sometimes? But that does sound like a good idea because, well, my computer is pretty much on all the time.

Also output devices like the 360 and a goddamn computer would have isolation protection, don't scare me.
Well I got my xbox audio dongle. It doesn't prevent the xbox from resetting when I switch channels, but it normalizes the sound. Which does me no good.
Plugging both my xbox and my pc results in my sound quality and volume cutting in half for my pc and the sub woofer does not play. Unplugging undoes this problem.
Over all: Massive massive failure.

I'll just... fucking... use my spare monitor. But as for sound...

A/B switch?

I dunno if I've ever seen an A/B switch that used mini jacks as input, but if you got an RCA-jack A/B switch you could get two cheap mini-jack-to-RCA cables from RadioShack for like 2 bucks per.

I think at one point I added my stereo's speakers to my computer's surround sound through the tapedeck  :-\
This was a very long time ago.
