Me and the wife are thinking about trying to take a week vacation in the very beginning of August. Anyone know any good vacation spots? She was thinking about Canada and I was thinking about visiting LA and getting free board at my aunt or uncle's. Beyond that we were thinking of the midwest or Yellowstone national park. We wanted to try and keep the cost reasonable too.

in b4 'come visit me'

duno if LA would be a good vacation.. pollution and the constant fear of getting robbed would ruin it for me.

regarding costs, your transport method is plane, train, automobile?

mid-western canada would put you in Alberta which i know nothing of but im sure you'd have your choice of the a trek in the desert , or skiing, in the same day.

Reach ottawa Tongue

Edit: what kind of places are you looking to visit? Ottawa has some pretty interesting buildings, but there's also Algonquin Park which is more south of ottawa and it has some sick hiking and kayaking/canoeing trails.
Sec lake has an island on it that grows wild blueberries and there's also a rock wall that's a 30 foot drop into the water and then underwater it keeps going like 100 feet. Pretty sick to jump off of.
All i can say is bring some bug spray...hah
You do not want to go to LA, unless you want to know what traffic worse than Miami is like and how a city can function without any public transit system what so ever.

I would suggest one of the national parks, either Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Yosemite, or are there any others out east that wouldn't be as far as a drive....perhaps somewhere in Appalachia?
I’m planning on taking some trips before the end of the Baseball season to see some games. I’d like to catch a Yankees/Red Sox series in either New York or Boston, and probably make it out for another Cubs game this year.

I’m also going to see Royals/Yankees in August, but I don’t think any of you are in KC, so it doesn’t matter much.

For a non-baseball fan…I’ve heard the “cool” places people are hitting up this summer are Seattle, Montreal, Portland, and Panama (clearly South Africa as well, but you are probably out of time for that one). According to GQ anyway.

I spent a summer in LA so I know how it is. It's basically Miami but more of everything (traffic, fake tits, palm trees, beach, celebrities, people that want to be celebrities, etc.).

We were leaning more towards nature shit, although I wouldn't mind some culture shit. I like big cities, she hates them.
Take a trip up the Pacific Coast Highway. Plenty of scenic areas along the coast, and you can detour inland whenever you feel like it.
My family was planning on vacationing to Taiwan this summer, but my (still living) grandmother's Alzheimer's is getting bad enough that we can't afford to either take her nor leave her behind. Instead, I've landed a volunteer position as a research assistant at a government lab here in Madison. So far it's been all gopher work but hopefully they'll let me work the larger instruments.

The research? Investigating the effects of sol gels on biopolymers, which is a fancy way of saying paint on wood.

d'aww. If he could be home with me all day that would be cool too, but he's got stuff to do. It's alright. I just kind of sleep anyway.

Yes, for about 6 years now. I get GQ, Details, The Atlantic, The Economist, and the New York Times.

I think Boston fans are terrible human beings, but I do dearly love the history of the best rivalry in sports (though Lakers/Celtics is up there for sure).
