Professor Funbucks

So, I was talking to Geoff earlier last week about possibly starting a podcast recording like....I'd say monthly, maybe bi-monthly.

Basic ideas:
Now, I don't have any 100% solid ideas for topics and what the podcast would be about,  but I'd record a couple episodes with a few different starter topics and just see what we do from that.  Kinda hoping it'd be like GFW radio, cause those guys were pretty hilarious and nonetheless on topic (most of the time)

We'd need hosts!
And I was thinking that we'd cast 3 recurring hosts and we could bring in a max of 3 guests per episode.  I don't think this'll be much of a problem, and I don't mind not hosting at all and just recording.

The podcast would run from an hour to an hour and a half, and there'd be a break every 30 mins of recording, to get up and stretch your feet/get a drink/etc

That being said, HOW DO I RECORD?  Can I just change my mic in to the stereo input and record people over vent?

I'll figure the last bit out, but yeah, I'd like to hear some ideas and if anyone would like to apply as one of the recurring hosts. I'm looking for FUNNY, SOMEWHAT INTELLIGENT conversation that CAN derive off the main topic, just as long as it comes back, and I'd like people who are quick on the spot and who are actually funny normally.

Anyways, post some ideas etc or just PM me, thanks.

GTA vice city exploder commercial
vent has a recording button, with added bonus, it identifies who is speaking during playback

you could also just use audacity for  recording, and set it to record whatever  channels you want (mic and headphone for example)
BROCAST
Sounds awesome, I would totally listen to that.

Does the vent recording record to different audio channels on a single track or is everyone individually recorded on different audio tracks (much easier to edit)

And yeah, originally I was thinking the Audacity thing, but if the vent recorded is easy, and if everyone's mics don't make them sound like downies I'd use it instead.

or maybe skype?

We had something in the works a while ago but it kinda fell apart. I still like the idea though.
not sure how vent does it tbh but you can do a lot to adjust individuals on client before you start anyways

Yea I still have a format worked out somewhere I think would work the best.

Edit: I have some time to put this together if we can get the support needed. How I had it worked out is we'd have 2 hosts then segments put together by members. Regular segments for regular stuff (map reviews) one off segments for one off stuff (randomness). So we'd have the regular skeleton of the show and members would fill out the meat of it as they have things to contribute.
I'm working on getting into radio, so I'll be glad to help in anyway.
Also the name we had picked out for the podcast was "reinstalling." Well some wanted reinstalled but from a grammatical perspective I think present participle is better than past participle (or form?) as it is in the present and not in the past.

sir

you just blew my mind  ???
I kinda like that name.

What would run during commercials though? Music, spots, actual commercials, what?

We have a sponsor - UMLan - so if they want to help us out with any costs there may be (???) we could run a quick promo or shoutout. Otherwise it's all on us.

Sounds good to start, and even if we talked too long, I'd probably cut parts of it out etc etc
im kinda doped up right now on the codeine so talk simpler LOL
but what KIND of stuff does everyone want to talk about? I mean, we are a TF2 community but we're much more than that, and I'm not sure where I'm going with this but I'd rather it be a mish mash of srs and fun, if you know what i mean, cause some podcasts i've listened to are DRY as fuck cause the hosts don't ever crack jokes or tell stories etc

And for commercials, I dunno, we could shout to UMlan at least once an ep, but otherwise,...let's say we all suggest a REALLY terrible radio ad we heard on our local news station and try to find it on youtube and i'll toss them in? i dunno lol

Here is copy pasta from my episode 1 plans in the defunct podcast board. If people are interested we can re-open it. Removed the names of the planned hosts as I dunno if they are still interested. One was going to be Luin, who may still be a good choice but the other is no longer a regular.

Quote:I'm starting the groundwork for the first episode which is planned for release either at the same time or shortly after the website being rolled out.  The show will be a variety show, not in the sense of a comedy show but in the sense of there will be a variety of segments.  The plan is to have "XY" be the host, he is not the star of the show but the person that "hosts" the guests.  Asks them questions, prompts them, keeps them on track etc.  There will also be a co-host that changes.  They will be the personality du jour.  That way we can keep things from getting stale.  Here is the plan so far for the first show:

Host                                                "XY"

Co-Host"XX"

News and Happenings                                                  Hosts

Map Reviews         Hosts & X

Best Ship Kills         Hosts

Mod Review         Hosts & me

Upcoming Games Hosts & X

Beer Jacked         Hosts & ainmosni & X

Map makers round table Hosts, Caff, Zargon(???), Deathkiller and probably Geoff (for a newb take)

These I want to record but will probably be too much for the first episode

Gamer Card                                                                    Hosts & X

Interview                                                Hosts & Jason(???) or HPH(???)

X is where I need guests.  Each X can represent 1 or 2 people.  Most segments are self explanatory.  Beer-Jacked will be a segment to just talk about some random interest like the kind that keeps taking over all the threads.  The first one will actually be about beer.  I want Ainmosni for obvious reasons but another person is welcome here.  Gamer Card will be a segment about games you should play or get your gamer card revoked.  They will be brief descriptions of the game, why it was so great and why you need to run out and get it right now if you haven't played it yet.  Interview is something I'm not sure we will use but I was thinking about doing interviews with talented community members that post their work here.

The show is purposefully done in segments for two reasons.  Firstly, because we represent a varied group and should cater to a variety of interests.  Secondly, because as I've talked to several of you before quality is important.  This will let us scrap any segment that doesn't work without having to scrap the show.  It will also let us store non-timely segments for later shows and give us a lot of flexibility in general.

I want to strike while the iron's hot on these and I know there is going to be plenty of missteps.  I am definitely not going to support releasing these to the public until the website is out.  We can start scheduling the recording of these segments at any time and then review them to see if they need any work or should be scrapped.  All the good ones will then be ready to put together when the web people are ready.  That's it so far, I know this is going to be a blast.

From listening to NPR I'd say the best way to do it is to record all the segments first, then have the hosts record the show introducing the segments we use.

... I'm still interested, nothing changed on my end.
Duck, Tim, and I would just go start a competing podcast anyways.
