Ok, threw this together.  Open to making it cheaper, so feel free to suggest replacement parts or tell me if I grabbed a retarded part.  I'd like to keep the GTX 480 in there, but honestly, given the price for performance a 470 is prolly nearly as good.

Missing a few odds and ends like monitor and whatnot but gimme a holler about this.
Eeeeeeeeeeeh....I've heard the 400 cards get really hot, and don't do much better than the current ATI cards.
also, 1 tb hdd x2? really? you need that much space?

I've heard that as well, but my brother purchased a 470 recently and it tops out at about 45-50c under load. Not really that hot.
If you're gonna go with those sexy hard drives, might I make a suggestion to thee?

This is the big brother of the drive you picked.

It's like 5 bux more, 64MB cache vs 32MB cache, cache is sexy.

It's a beasting drive, I've got both the 32MB cache you linked and it was upstaged by the 64MB version I got a few months ago.

correct me if im wrong, but could he not use a smaller drive and RAID it and only backup certain shit, so he could have a 1 tb main drive and a 750 gb backup?
i could use up 1TB for sure

He said RAID for backup, he will have 1TB of space, one drive is going to be an on-the-fly mirror of the other one.

Also, I've got 2x 1TB drives, 2x 750GB drives and a 320GB drive, for a total of 3555GB of usable space on this computer, and 2735GB of it is used.

There's no such thing as too much storage space.

Also, my other PC has 590GB of space.

That defeats the purpose of a mirror RAID. RAID 1 is defined as a 1:1 copy.

I see no arguments, only point/counter-point

Also, APB versus?
idk what you guys are doing but i got 6TB in my desktop. kirby knows whats what
Here's the opposite end of Kirby's suggestion.

Looking at the specs I see no difference between this HDD and the one you picked, but this one's only $65 this week with promo code EMCYTNX56.

holy shit dude
Crits on the other stuff too plz Tongue  ANd as far as the 4XX series goes, I hear it's hot all around.  And yeah I'll prolly still burn through the 1 TB drive, even with a smaller SSD for programs.  It's a pain in the ass moving video files around and backing other shit up just for space needs.
the HD 5xxx series is a bit more expensive, but leagues better than what Nvidia has on the market right now. I have and HD 5870 and couldn't be happier.

Although, drivers could be better. I've had a few unexplained crashes on a select few games, but overall runs everything with 80 fps or higher.
i have a 5850, runs like a charm. quiet, temps are fine, 75-85 fps on everything with all settings at high

That's a blue drive.

WD has a few levels, Blue is the slowest.

Get either a Black or Enterprise drive. a Blue drive would be for a cheap build for your mom.
Yeha I'm liking the way these drives look since they're reasonably fast (not 10,000s, but meh), and can activate TLER.
