Off to college, where steam is port-blocked and I don't feel like making a cantenna to hijack neighboring wifi because I don't understand that shit. But also because I prolly still won't be able to play anything nice. That means you will never see me on steam until this december. So ya'll those with 360's better get some blazblue and game with me.
Make a cantenna!

And a whole lot more!

Great, my nearest wifi is also around 6 blocks away and I might not even be near a window.
So as a skeptic I'm going to assume that a cantenna won't pick up a signal thousands of feet away when my ds couldn't do it 100 feet away.
The DS antenna is shite.

Get an old Dishnetwork 18", external antenna, tripod, zipties and go to town.

lol my college owns yours
When I first moved into my college dorm/apartment they had blocked the Steam ports as well. They were also implementing a new network entry system, which may had something to do with it. Enough people complained and eventually they opened the ports. I suggest doing the same. Find some other people on campus who play Steam games (there is bound to be, just stop by the science/engineering/chess/anime/game club and ask around a bit) and have a little chat with college. I wouldn't suggest going directly to the IT department though as they will probably tell you something like "we don't have the authority", so you're better off trying to find someone who's job is to work with students on requests like that. Try asking your RA or somebody like that if they know who you can go to.
Nope, they don't care. Infact, my new dorm doesn't have xbox live even. But my old one does. Thats right, 2 buildings, one with and one without xbox live.
So I'll give this a shot. Right now my laptop is sitting behind me and its got a wireless signal thats 2 bars. Its the only one thats not password protected. I don't know how long its going to be there or how long until they wise up. For now I think I'm gonna try and hook my xbox's ethernet to my laptop so its wireless laptop xbox and pray it works somehow.

Okay it works, but I've only got 1-2 bars. How does I cantenna an entire laptop?
