So yeah, was playing with Liquid and Versus the other day, I realized I could host a listen server for GMOD, and pretty well at that. Anyways, I figure why not try to spark the community's interest in Garry's Mod again? Right now there's nothing official planned, no GMOD Mondays or anything like that. For now it'll just be chat with us and maybe we'll play some. Hopefully hosting will get even better at university, and if not, maybe I'll invest in a dedicated server. Anyways, if you're interested in playing GMOD with us, here's what you'll need:
Instructions on how to install PHX3 SVN and the listed addons
If you've never used an SVN before, think of it as a folder that will "sync up" with a folder online (assuming you update regularly). It's the method of choice for distributing the PHX3 pack, which is filled with absolutely essential construction props for GMOD. Here's a quick runthrough of how to get it. Otherwise, google around for a video tutorial. I'd link some here but they'd get auto-embedded.
1. Download and install Tortoise SVN.
2. Make a folder in your "addons" folder (directory Steam>steamapps>(yourname)>garrysmod>garrysmod>addons, yes there are two garrysmod folders) and name it "phx3". Right-click it, and you should see a context menu option called "SVN checkout". If not, you didn't install Tortoise SVN properly, derp.
3. In the checkout dialog box, under "URL of repository", copy and paste this link: https://phoenix-storms.svn.sourceforge.n...nix-storms (leave all other options at default)
4. Wait 999 years as the SVN updates. No really, it will take at least a few minutes.
5. Once the checkout finishes, congratulations, you have the most important addon in all of GMOD. Now go to the addons folder. Unzip all the tools in the mediafire .zip I provided above.
6. You're set to play!
For reference, here are the addons included in that .zip (sorry, no links, I've lost track):
I must reiterate, we do NOT have a dedicated server for this. We can only play this some of the time, and when I'm available. If this is still all confusing to you, don't worry about it.
