Dratini has a lot more in common with Gyarados than Magikarp does.  Just change Gyarados to Water/Dragon.  I never got why it was flying, anyway.

if by "more in common" you mean "both are long and blue" then yes but seriously that's literally all
besides both clearly looking like fish, magikarp and gyarados share whiskers, the same style mouth, and dorsal fins that more or less exactly the same excepting color
lesser so is that both pectoral fins have the same basic design (main color ridge on top, open at bottom) and both contain a creamish color as one of their colors

Also the evolution from Magikarp to Gyarados is based on Japanese legend.

You're going to be so disappointed that he doesn't evolve into anything, shit pissed me off so much with Pachirisu. Thought I'd get this badass flying squirrel out of it....nope

Yea I got one of those when I was grinding levels. Caught it and moved on. I don't see it being useful for the actual game, never heard of anyone using one in competitive play.
except the mother fucker is immune to ground and electric

He's Flying/Electric, he takes normal damage from electric, 0.5x for electric against itself, 2.0x for flying, means normal damage at 1.0x

He is immune to ground since its a 0x and 2x modifier
The electric gym leader's Emolga is a bitch, but you'd be better off catching and using a Galvantula.

I solo-ed both her Emolgas with a Gurrdurr, then I just kinda Zebstrika with some other Pokemon. It was probably my Pignite, but that was easily the hardest gym battle I have had. I have seven badges right now.

motor drive makes him immune to electric

his effectiveness to me dropped a little bit when i learned that flying isn't super effective against ground
for some reason i thought it was

still think the squirrel is a cool mofo

and he's dropped because he's a shitty counter for water and ground, both commonly having ice and rock moves respectively
i have made it a point to try and at least encounter all the "rares" of an area
i have a cryogonal because of it (shitty nature though)
my team consists of ducklett, ferroseed, munna, krokorok, scolipede, and pignite

ducklett is sort of an hm slave, however a good counter to fire, with flying's resistance to grass, he doesn't get wrecked by solar beam
ferroseed is a good counter to water, with steels resistance to ice, he doesn't get wrecked by icebeam
munna i'm not too attached to at the moment, i might swap it out, although her sleep combo moves will be pretty powerful at high level (might be replaced with a flying killer, my team is somewhat weak against flying) (subbed out for tynamo til i can find a flying killer that i like)
krokorok is a bamf, great counter for electric and psychic
scolipede is my poison comboer
pignite is my counter for leaf
