i'm not sure if i want to have nightmares about this shit
lol, I saw you playing like 15 minutes ago.

But really, not encouraging me to play the game itself.  It took me a week to work up the nerve to install it.
Be brave children, it's totally worth it.  :-*
Its a good game, and I did not find it scary really, the only thing that pissed me off was that even in like Silent Hill you get something to fight back with

Man, once I got that two handed hammer in silent hill 1, I feared no evil.

this
I honestly don't see why this game is scary.
I did get freaked out by it, but it's almost purely physiological. There's hardly ever any real threat, just the mood and atmosphere. Of course there were those "OH CRAP THERE HE IS RUN HIDE!!!" moments, but for the most part you're running from shadows.

On the other hand, games like silent hill 3 and eternal darkness: sanity's requiem actually give you something to freak out about. Silent hill creates this atmosphere of pure horror using everything from the soundtrack to visuals including actual monsters. Eternal darkness likes to fuck with your head by using all sorts of random scenarios to make you lose it. In both games, you'd never feel safe taking on a monster since silent hill gives you a pipe or something and in eternal darkness every monster you see lowers your sanity bar a bit more.

Ever since those games, yea Amnesia was the first in a long time to actually genuine scare me and not just "startle" me, but yeah for the most part it's a hole lot of nothing.

....have you played it?

This isn't a cop-out statement, here. Seriously, have you?
This is a horror game done (mostly) right.

I say "mostly", as, admittedly, it starts to get a little predictable the more you play as to where the shit's gonna start happening.
But, honestly, it didn't detract from the experience at all.
There's a thick air of oppression and helplessness in this game that I haven't seen in many others. That's something that's rather difficult to get right.

Someone gifted me a copy yesterday, and I've been...well...-trying- to play it. I have to take breaks.
The fact that I feel a pang of dread opening up this game (for the right reasons, for once) again and again certainly carries some weight to it.

That's a scant bit unnecessary, doncha think?

And honestly, if she's actually capable of removing herself enough from the game to break the grip the atmosphere imposes upon oneself, then more power to her.
Luin has more kahones than both of you

Oh, go flip on your back. :p
Yes, I have played it, at least some of it. I haven't had the time to finish it.

Still, I do not find it scary. I am not an emotionless robot either, but thanks. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

Stuff like that has never really scared me. Not in games, not in real life (and yes, there have been plenty of times when I've been out exploring creepy abandoned places in the dark in the middle of nowhere. Seriously, there have). I love them, find them thrilling. I'm not saying OMG UR ALL PUSSIES BECUZ UR SCARED. Not at all. I'm pointing that they don't scare ME. If you take that as a personal attack or affront then I apologize, that's not my intent. But please don't insult me.

If my statement came off as an insult, it was never my intention.

And as I said above, the ability to separate yourself enough from it to not let it affect you negatively is certainly impressive.
Or you could just not find it scary. We do tend to watch a crap load of scary movies, ghost hunt, hang out in the dark, etc.
Besides things that startle, whats to be afraid of? Analyze a situation, decide on course of action, act.

Think what people do who actually have things to be scared of? Crossing paths with a bear in a forest, getting shot at in a ditch in the middle of the desert. What's being scared going to help?
Electronic boogiemen are the least of our fears....

LOL

also, it's more that I get immersed in the environment easily. I wouldn't really call anxiety the same as fear really.
I guess I let myself get immersed easily, because this game scares me. I'll probably save it for when some friends and I are in the same room and we can enjoy it like an interactive movie.

Honestly I'm kind of a pussy though, here's my first five minutes:
Ok let's go through these start up tips--what the fuck is that thing in the back and why is it getting closer with each page, I swear to god they are goingtomakesomethingpopoutatmereallyloudohshitohshitohshitoh oh ok let's start the game.
