They worth it? Or are they going cheap because they are as flawed as the rumors?
Or possibly because they are REALLY OLD.....

They came out almost nine years ago: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_4_Series

I meant the 4xx series. Supposedly they had power/heat problems and nvidia is trying to rush out the 5xx series which fixes those issues (and sweep the 4xx's under the rug).
The 460 is one of the defining cards of the last graphics card generation.
the GTX 470 is no slouch either.

Well that's what I mean, is it worth looking into picking up one on the cheap or not?

Just how "on the cheap" are we talkin' here?
New Egg seems to be more often having them on their special sales. I saw a 450 for $100 the other day. I'm still a month out before I'd have any spare cash but usually there is no nvidia cards, and if there are they are not 4xx series. Lately there has been quite a few. I put that and Tom's review of the 5xx series together and figure they may be trying to unload them and replace the 4xx series with the 5xx series.

Holy shit that goes far back, the first box I personally built had a Geforce 2 GTS in it

Seems to be telling me to wait for a 470 or higher. I think I'll just keep waiting unless there are some good sales.

Well also it seems people skip graphics generations, I went 2 - > 4 - > 7 - > 2XX -> (likely 5XX/6XX when I upgrade)

I hardly knew anyone that had 3, 5 (FX), 9 (1xx), or 3XX

I had THE GeForce 3 card (Asus v8200 Deluxe, Circa 2001, paid $500 for it at the time) and both Luin and I are rocking 9-series (9800 GT and 9600 GT). The 9-series has massive power savings over the 8-series.

Nvidia went from the 200 series to the 400 series by the way. No 3XX.

Edit: Well, they did this piece of junk, but that doesn't count.

It's all just rebranded, OEM only low end 200 series stuff. For all intents and purposes, the 300 series doesn't exist.
So, while people are on the topic of upgrading videocards, it seems that the 6950 can be essentially modded into a 6970 for free. It's pretty much a completely artificial difference between the two cards.

Fun stuff. 6950's are nicely priced too.
