More wonderful problems from me, this time in the form of a dead PC (again) (For that matter I'm probably loosing my Gmail acocunt to a keylogger on the school network as we speak but I'm out of options.)

Anyway, the problem is that my PC is failing to boot, if I let it start normaly it goes to a black screen and hangs. If I try to launch the Windows Repair Tool the screen flashes then resets the timer on the auto-select. I've had a simmilar problem before, where windows wouldn't boot and it would lock-up at start-up like that and it was caused by a DLL failing to load and a format fixed it. (The bug is suposeably caused by windows update corrupting Disk Check on Vista) However, The Repair tool failing to launch is a new symptom and I fear I might not beable to format this time. Has anyone had a similar problem or can offer help? I don't want to format but I can if I have to. (Though I think I'm out of re-installs for somthing...)

EDIT: I've yet to try Safemode but if it's simmilar to the previous bug (Which I have no reason to doubt it isn't, only thing that's changed since last restart was windows decided to update it's self while I was sleeping.) Safemode will only show that a DLL (that I can't remember the name of) is hanging

Another Note: Is is at all possible to copy files from one place on my PC to another location without loading up windows? or is that impossibe? I'd like to save as much as I can to either the D Partition (which for some reason survives formats) or a flashdrive. (Sorry for spelling, school PCs use IE and there's no spell check and right now there's a nifty bug that's making the text damn near impossible to read.)

Yes, this is possible, here is what you can do....

A) If you have an old(er) PC, hook the hard drives up to it and transfer any data you need off of them.

B) Load a tiny linux distro off of a flash drive or CD, there are some distributions designed to run off nothing except a CDROM or flash drive. From there you could mount an extra external Hard drive and your current one and move any files around that you need to, the caveat here is that some distros might not recognize the windows partition and if its all command line it takes some advanced knowledge to pull it all off.

Find what DLL safemode is hanging on and post it.
I got home and started up my PC hoping for a  and the bloody thing booted up

in ten minutes.

Now that, that crap is done with I got to see what windows did. It installed updates that I didn't tell it to download or install. (I have automatic update turned off)

How can it install updates that I didn't tell it to?
Easy, they are Microsoft and they'll roll an update on your computer, regardless of your settings if they want to.

When Microsoft released their infamous KB971033 update, I had it installed under the radar on both my Win7 PC's when they both had Auto Updates turned off, not only via dropdown box in the Auto Update program, but I had it turned off via Group policy settings as well, it still got installed.

Also, nice background pic, whar 2 get?

Lol pretty much the exact same thing happened to me where an automatic update (even though it was turned off) fucked my computer up the other day. Sad
That's what you get for using Vista
