Artist - Amastroph

Start Date:
July 13th

Style:

Round Robin w/Brackets - Everyone will play everyone else once, then brackets will be seeded

Matches will be best of 3

Matches are Bring 6 pick 3 flat 50

Only Gen V Pokemon May Be Used

Excluded Pokemon: Victini, Zekoram, Reshiram, Kyurem, Landorous, Keldeo, Meloetta, Genesect, Pokemon with unreleased DreamWorld abilities, lists of released pokemon can be found here (events) and here (regular play).
(ie. Legendaries with Stats >= 600)

Limit of Two: Thundurus, Tornadus, Cobalion, Terrakion, Virizion
(ie. Legendaries with Stats < 600)

Rules & Clauses:

- Evasion Clause: You may not use any evasion raising moves such as Double Team or Minimize

- Sleep Clause: You may only put one of your opponent's pokemon to sleep, players self inducing sleep through Rest do not count toward this total

- Item Clause: No two pokemon may have the same hold-item

- Species Clause: You may not use two of the same pokemon on your team, pokemon from the same evo line do not count toward this (ie. you can use both a Samurot and a Dewott on your team if you wish)

- One-Hit KO Clause: One-Hit KO moves such as fissure or sheer cold are not allowed

- Disconnections: WiFi can be fickle for some, if less than three pokemon have been knocked out between both players, the match will be replayed. If a player disconnects twice, even through no fault of their own, it is considered a forfeit for that round. To clarify, if I'm in a best of 3 match, and I disconnect twice in the first round, I forfeit that round, but will continue play until one player wins two rounds. If a pattern is noticed you will be dropped from the tournament.

- Use of Pokesave and RNG abuse is allowed, however, if you are using pokesav to make your team, please at least make realistic stats, winning teams will be checked Smile

Footnote: Should Metronome violate and of these clauses, it is not a forefit, as you used metronome, which is entirely a random dice roll

Match Play:

- Scheduling: There will be two gathering nights on IRC for ease of match set up, you can play anyone in any order. Days will be Wed & Saturday at 8pm CST, but players are free to play round robin matches at any time. The set times are to encourage everyone to gather in one place at one time.

#brbuninstalling @ gamesurge.net - Use Mibbit if you are too lazy to install a client

- Depending on number of sign-ups the time duration of the round robin will be 2 - 4 weeks, bracket matches will have set times, likely the same times as the normal previous meetups. Brackets will be best of three, single elimination.

- Between rounds players are forbidden from adjusting their team in any way, including hold items, pokemon used, or order.

- Between round robin matches players are free to change their teams/hold items as they see fit, however, for the bracket matches, players must stick with the same pokemon & hold items throughout, order may be adjusted.

Prizes:
As many of you know I make hats, so these will be part of the prizes, I will also make customs of pokemon I have not made yet, but the design must still come out to the right dollar amount Smile

1st Place: A Steam Game (or combination of games) up to $10, and a hat of $35 or less from my shop

2nd Place: A Hat of $35 or less from my shop

3rd Place: Indy Steam Game $5 or less

Rules and such are still up for debate so feel free to discuss, we have about a month Smile

although i don't understand this
"- Use of Pokesave and RNG abuse is allowed, however, if you are using pokesav to make your team, please at least make realistic stats, winning teams will be checked "

why allow it at all if it creates an unfair advantage?

As for your questions, RNG requires no cheating device, just extra effort, I'll be posting an RNG Guide/Analysis to Zargon's blog. As for Pokesav, that's straight up editing your pokemon, this might be more meaningful for people who don't have the time to train a team (ie. those of us that work 9-5 every day). I would call Pokesav strongly discouraged, but even if you pokesav a team, it doesn't mean you have any semblance of strategy.

I am in, and I suggest just banning Metronome outright due to the issues it brings up (beyond the fact that it's just one move that's incredibly limited learningwise, but it'd really stink to have a way to dodge around the rules with it).

Another small opinion that I have is that you should be allowed to change Pokemon send-out order between rounds. There are some very powerful strategies that, if not countered immediately, you're screwed outright.

Yeah, the whole point of those clauses is to reduce randomness.
Count me in.

As for the metronome thing, it should not be a problem at all. None of the gen V pokemon learn it.
Already have 2/6 pokemon ready. You all are going to haaaaaaaaaaaate me.
Any other takers? 6 people hardly makes for much of a tournament....
TOTALLY WOULD but I don't have a team ready at all.

Plus with work I don't know how much time I would have to train one Sad

Also, for anybody wanting to test teams or w/e: http://www.pokemon-online.eu/

dude, read the OP. It's in July.
I haven't even beat the elite 4 yet. Haven't played in a while, if i get the willpower to scrap together something fun i might join or maybe ill pokesav up something lulzy
I could probably get something together by then, sure. I'll try at least.
Just ordered me an R4.  I already got a legit team but I don't want to have to breed more pokemon for *interesting* strategies.

Good thing you have a month to get ready, getting those things can take some time, did you get one that can run Wood R4?
do my pokemon have to be a certain level for this?

Yup though I have no idea what that is.  All I know about the R4 is that it will let me use Pokesav and pirated games, and I"ll figure out the rest when it gets here.  Site says shipping should be ~2 weeks.
